only illegal if you get caught. unless you've got a sniffer test in addition to the visual, i don't see why removing the primary and keeping a secondary is a huge risk law-wise. how many general inspection stations know these cars come with 2 cats? of those, how many are going to go through the trouble of remove the 16 or so bolts/clips to remove the under-tray and actually check when they can already see one cat in clear view about 18 inches downstream on the exhaust?

You should have a tune with headers. Tuner will disable CEL. Where I live all that's needed for emissions is an ODBII check, which will fail only if there's a CEL or readiness problem.

PA does the sniffer test. Just because you can pass your version doesn't mean it's the same everywhere else. I know the FT86Speedfactory guys say they don't have any emissions testing where they're from. So again I say, Eagerly waiting info for the high flow cat.

I appreciate the probability of getting caught is small but it is not worth the potential trouble. No one plans on having accidents or getting caught but in my view it is better to have everything right and not get caught than to have something f**k you financially if you do.

This is just my view.

I forget his screen name, but the guy that worked with Nameless on their first setup is only running one high flow cat and still has never had a CEL. I think I recall seeing somewhere that he had well over 1000 miles on it too.

So if you live somewhere that only tests OBDII ports, you'll be good to go. I'm not sure if it'll pass the sniffer though, it's possible you're screwed.

Lucky for me that my state only tests the port

In true American - and Internet forum - fashion...that's too bad for you, but I want a catless header and don't care about your emissions.

Gentlemen, I am sure that there will be headers for all, with and without cats, when they get done testing. :P

But what's the point of the internet if not to be ****s to each other over something as frivolous as a car part?

Also, I am pretty sure they will change things around on individual orders to better fit the customer's needs. Nameless is kind of awesome like that

It's true, over 3k miles on it with the catless header, zero CELs, and I have a high flow cat in the downpipe. Zero smell at all when warmed up, too- I bet it'd pass a sniffer without issue.

Aren't sniffer tests going away 1/2013 anyway? (USA, that is).

My understanding is that the visual will get more detailed (we'll see) and they'll go off of the OBDII readiness check.

I believe disabling codes can generate a non-ready state. At least, that's what I recall reading about in my RomRaider research back in the day.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

^^ Ontario (Canada, not Cali) is dropping the sniffer test for 2012 as well for all OBDII cars. No CEL or stored codes and you're good to go. Anything older still gets the same old sniffer test.

I'm not sure about in the US, but for me I'm emissions exempt until the car is 7 years old. I'm not sure how old it has to be before it requires a test for re-sale though.
