They've kept the trademark on "Zora" for a while. Rumor mill says that's the name of the new one.

Mid-Engine 2019 Corvette C8 Spied, Gets Three Engine Options

Quote:
Chevrolet took a prototype of the upcoming mid-engine Corvette C8 at the track for high-speed testing and the rest is history.

The tester you see in the photos here appears to have come a long way since the first scoops and seemingly features a lot of the production-intent bodywork underneath its heavy wrapping.

There are very few details out there about the next-gen Corvette, but we have heard that GM is planning to offer the Corvette C8 with three different powertrains. These will include the engines codenamed LT2, LT6 and LT7, with one of them being a hybrid powertrain.

There will also be several roof options to choose from, including fixed, targa and a full-glass option. Chevrolet plans to use composite materials in both the body and parts of its new platform as well to keep the weight down.

Production is said to start at the Bowling Green, Kentucky in January 2019, with the rollout of the different derivatives to be completed by the middle of 2021. Some reports suggest that Chevrolet will continue offering the C7 alongside the C8 until 2021.

Chevrolet’s switch to a mid-engine platform for the Corvette will be the biggest change in the model’s history since its original launch in 1953. Sources say that part of the reason is because the Corvette has an increasingly ageing demographic, with the company resting its hopes to the new mid-engine model in order to bring younger customers into the showrooms.

I'm down with the cause. It doesn't feel like a change "just because" to me. It's been thought about and toyed with for decades by very talented and knowledgeable people to the point it seemed like a certain eventuality.

Because of that it's easy for me to look forward to it's final reveal hoping the execution is on point.

Exactly. The Corvette should always have a inline 6 engine in the front and a solid rear axle at the back. Nothing should ever change ever.

I think the Corvette changes have been planned a long time and will come about now to separate it from the newer Camaros. They are close to matching the Corvette now - and did sizzle the Nurburgring!

It take 5.
2 to actually cover the car. And 3 more to discuss how the car is being covered incorrectly.

Jokes aside, those covers SUCK to put on. They are held on by an industrial crap ton of velcro (and sometimes rivets). They are made to stay on, not come back off. Also, there is foam all over under the vinyl in random places that bulks up the sides and makes the car bigger than it should be.

All I know from those pics is that the number is more than 2! There was an old show called "Eight is Enough", but I don't know if it was about this.......

Might be a Cadillac?

Something in my gut tells me that while everyone assumes this is going to be the new C8 Corvette, perhaps it might turn out to be a halo car for Cadillac?

Let me explain...

Johan de Nysschen is the guy responsible for the Audi R8.
If you recall the launch of the R8, it really brought Audi into the spotlight and they had the right lineup of cars to funnel these never-before-seen young customers towards the cool new halo Audi, which got them through the doors of the showrooms. They might not have left with an R8, but quite a few drove off in an A4, S5, etc.

Nysschen joined Cadillac in 2014.
Right now the Cadillac V cars are some of the best performing cars in their segment and gunning for their german rivals, but we know young people aren't snatching these vehicles up. Cadillac is simply not cool to kids -- maybe this upcoming halo car will alter that perception. Rumor has it that this new mid-engined "C8" will be sold along side the traditionally front-engined C7... which leads me to believe that they will brand it something other than a Corvette.

It's also possible that we're looking at some future "twins"...
