FT86? GT86? What gives?
So I know the car is sold in Japan as a Toyota GT86.
But why is the forum and why are some of the vendors called FT86? Just curious. |

Basically, any company that jumped on the "FT86" name did so 1) before the car's selling name was announced, and 2) do this to avoid Toyota/Subaru lawyers. -alex |

Does anyone search anymore? It takes less time to google the topic than post the topic.

Actually several countries (i.e. Australia) have several trim levels all with different letter designations. Can't think of them all off the top of my head but there are at least and R, G and GT levels.

It was its name given by Subaru back when they didn't want to build it.

It truly ties in with Ultra's comment!!!! "According to Merriam-Webster's Dictionary, "86" is a slang term that is used in the American popular culture as a transitive verb to mean throw out or get rid of, particularly in the food service industry as a term to describe an item no longer available on the menu, or to refuse service to a customer"
