I couldn't agree more. I hate to dispose of my tires too when they only have 5,000 miles on them and the OEM rims could definitely use an upgrade. Hmm, decisions, decisions.

Btw, where did you order your rims from? Thank you again.

Oakos. Nothing but good things to say about them, good price, good customer service, and quick shipping.

Probably a stupid question..

I just got my 17x8 RPF1's installed and was wondering what the air pressure should be.. They feel like they need air but I don't know if that is because they are grippier than stock or what. Any help would be awesome!!!

You listed what the wheels are, what are the tires on them?

Standard pressure is 36psi. For every day driving it works for me. For any performance related driving you're going to want to alter them accordingly.

So this is my first set of non-standard rims.. is 36psi (stock tire psi) ok to run on larger tires?

Heh.

Almost all of our tires for years have had a max pressure of 51 PSI. In fact, it's a rare tire that does not. Don't the OEM Primacy tires have a 51 PSI max?

That's not a recommended running pressure, just the max pressure without risking blowing the tire off the rim. Actually, most tires can probably safely take even more.

Subaru BRZ recommended regular pressure is 35 PSI front/rear. I don't know whether Toyota is different.

I say "regular pressure" because tire pressures are an involved issue, and one cannot say that there is only one "correct" pressure. It depends...

If you're running even bigger tires with even lower profiles, i.e. shorter sidewalls, you might want to run even higher pressures (if you can stand it) to protect your rims against dents that could cause an air leak. Today's decaying roads are a menace to our wheels.

It's worth doing some research about tires and pressures. I'll bet you'll find it interesting, and you'll learn how you can alter the handling balance for instance by changing the relative pressures a bit front to rear. I might like a little more in the front, for instance, to mitigate too much understeer.

I check my tire pressures by eye (yes, just looking at them) each time I get into my car. You'll quickly learn to spot a 5 PSI low tire with practice.

You need a tire gauge, of course.

Set your tire pressures when the tires are at ambient temperature. That means when the air inside the tire is the same temperature as the air outside the tire. When you drive your car, the air inside your tires gets hotter and expands, raising the pressures. Do not drop the pressures back to 35 PSI when your tires are hot.

For each 10 degree change in air temp, a tire will gain or lose 1 PSI pressure. In the spring and fall when temps fluctuate wildly, day to day, I may fiddle my tire pressures daily.

I could go on for pages, but I'll stop with just this little bit.

Hope this has been helpful.

Have fun reading:

.... or just follow OEM spec. ~35 is usually a good number.

You under- or over-inflate based on need.
