Spoiler that with help performance but not harm mpg?
I like the gt wing but my friend said its pointless at street speeds and adds too much drag...so I was thinking of getting the rocket bunny duck bill? Thoughts?

Pretty much any spoiler on these cars for street use are cosmetic only. None should cause any noticeable impact in mileage. Pick what you like the looks of and go for it.

I'd avoid a GT wing unless you already have a pretty extensive body kit... I saw a Firestorm FR-S with a GT wing with stock wheels & suspension and it did not look enticing at all. For me, the TRD spoiler looks good on pretty much any setup, its fairly subtle (not too tall like the duck bill is) and it flows nicely while being noticeable. But like @Tcoat said, pick what you think works best with your car.

Just remember to avoid roof spoilers at all cost

Spoilers and wings are two different things.
Very generally speaking, spoilers typically decrease overall drag by redirecting airflow in such a way as to shrink the area of low pressure at the back of the car, or reduce any natural lifting tendencies. Wings create downforce which is lift in a downwards direction and a natural byproduct of lift is drag. In the end, your friend is right, any functional wing will increase drag. It won't be particularly effective at anything other than highway speeds and above, and the rest of the time it's a big chunk of plastic sticking out into the airstream. The OEM spoiler actually decreases drag and would consequently marginally increase mileage. But, if you're going for the Superbird look, then just pick the one you like best. It's hard to imagine any option will make more than a couple mpg difference. |

Unless you are using it as a race car you will have no noticeable affects from either a wing or spoiler. Or likely from any aero mods at all. You can't "feel" down force on the highway and I imagine any change in mpg will be less than 1 mpg. Get what you think looks best. I have the rocket bunny gt wing and it looks great

A (proper) rear diffuser may increase downforce and help with mpg, but like others have said, under normal speeds, you probably won't see either.

Wings like that are used to increase downforce dramatically to increase grip in the rear. You see them on cars in street prepared autocross classes quite often, especially Miatas. But they are trailer driven or the spoilers are removed for daily driving. |
