Brand orientation!

After a few years in the car scene I've noticed one thing. Every single individual in this scene has their favorite brand and tends to stick to that certain brand when buying cars. My best friend has only driven bmws in his life and will probably never stop buying them. My dad's boss strictly buys amgs. Then of course there are the honda people who strictly drive hondas.

Out of curiosity, who else likes to stick to one brand?
What brand is it and why?

I don't think of myself as brand oriented at all.

Toyota, Honda and Nissan of car make.

Family has owned over 20+ Toyotas, grew up around Nissan and Hondas and even worked on them. For daily driver they are reliable. 400k+ miles.

Why stick to one? Didn't really chose to stick with Toyota. Just became a habit of passing it from one family member to another. From x<50k to 300k<X we passed on each others cars and they still on the road!

The old Celica I used to own has over 482k on a 22r engine. My pickup has 320k+ on 22re and still going. TRD parts because they so attractive in red and black.

Honda bc of growing up around late model Integras and a NSX I never got to drive. Always thought they were vehicles rich people only drove. I was like 10, then.

I grew to hate Ford because of how cr@ppy they became for a while. From power steering blowing up on me at 52k while I helped someone move from their apt to brakes sticking. Then fuel pump, and finally x2 head gaskets at around 180k.

I've found I like Subarus. I don't know exactly why, because they certainly have their quirks. The boxer engine is a cool layout, it steps away from the broad monotony of V's or I's. I like Subaru's design mentality of cross-platform compatibility and utility. AWD was a big thing for me for a long time, and it took some soul searching to move to a simpler RWD platform, but it feels familiar enough with the BRZ that it wasn't alien.

Familiarity I assume is a reason people stick with brands. I think the loyalty develops some level of camaraderie with other enthusiasts of that brand, and you have instant friends.

A lot if it also has to do with personal experiences, like what @Packofcrows hinted at. Consider a negative experience with another brand with your parent's car, or a friend's car who isn't an enthusiast, whatever. It leaves such a sour taste in your mouth that it just furthers your emotional investment in the brand you think is cool/superior. Or, if the bad experience were to happen to *your* cool car, or your friend's cool (fill in the blank car), that it'd be just a common fix, but holy hell man, that "other POS" was a pain in the ass, man they suck...

Another thing is when you feel like some manufacturer "gets you" or "gets it" in regards to a specific type of car. Consider Mustang fans, or Corvette fans, or Supra fans, or GTR fans, or Porsche fans, or BMW fans... you name it, each manufacturer/model has some particular enticement or motto that you want to be a part of. Mustang and Corvette have always been a middle finger and a symbol of America, GTR has always been the common man's super car, Porsche has stuck to it's design guns through the decades... You name it, some brands/models have an image/feel that people are just drawn to. Clever marketing...

I'm always all over the place when it comes to brands. Right now the family fleet, which I pretty much picked out, consists of a Toyota/Subaru, Chevrolet, Honda, Volvo and a Ford. My driveway is like the United Nations of cars.

I am also a car slut. I could not care less who makes it and have owned or wanted something from just about every company ever.
Except Yugo of course, I have never wished I had a Yugo.

I pretty much have zero brand loyalty. Whatever manufacturer makes the best product at a price I can afford, then I'll buy it, whether Yugo or Mercedes. My last five car purchases have been:

- Porsche
- Nissan
- Scion
- Volkswagen
- Subaru

For my next car, I'm debating between Chevy, Lotus, Ford and Porsche. I wouldn't hesitate to buy any brand, especially these days.

I've driven a Ford, Nissan, Hyundai, Subaru, and Toyota and I have to say I will probably never sway away from Toyota/Lexus. There's something about them that makes me satisfied.. maybe the racing history or the reliability... or both.

Toyota and Fiat.

Because the cars that made me FEEL GOOD were my early '70's Celica coupes and a 1970 Fiat 124 Sport Spider. They were fun to drive and never broke down. Not once.

BOOM! Brand loyalty.

I have zero brand loyalty. If a company makes a car I like, then I shall buy it.

While I'm not dedicated to a specific company, I seem to like what Subaru has been doing the past couple years.

I had a '12 WRX, then a '13 FRS (basically a Subaru lol), and now a '16 STI. I think Subaru has made some big strides over recent years, and their sales figures show. I just like the idea of a single car that you can do everything with. Drive every day, get groceries, pick up the kids, or take to the track on the weekend.

Plus, the resale value is quite awesome on some of their cars.
