Or even Nuclear.. Norway/Sweden are in a very good position as they generate their power via hydro and leading the way on electric cars etc.. there are various incentives too, however, I struggle with electric as a lot of people live in areas where charging points are inaccessible and cost of going electric is prohibitive... Not for your average 'Joe Bloggs'...

It's far more efficient to deal with one set of regulations than 50 different sets. That being said, if you want to pay twice as much as me for a slower version of the same car because auto makers need to pull the extra cost for CA regulations out of CA, be my guest.

Just saw that John Witherspoon had passed. I will always remember him as Craig's dad in Friday.

You guys remember how some sci-fi shows/movies use like crystals as an energy source? Maybe we just need a good ole asteroid full of energy crystals.

Well, I have nothing intelligent to add so I'll just thank you all for the stimulating conversation and get back to work. Carry on, guys. Good stuff.

edit: Ugh, Nevermore, you're talking about dilithium. Impulse power is so yesterday.

That is my stance on it too. I have not had a single compliance test for EPA fail CARB or vise versa. I use the same certification data on both. It makes it look like a cash grab.

I would rather have to beg strangers to let me plug in my car at their house then buy a Tesla. Beyond agreeing on the fugly part, there are other design elements and business practices I don't care for with the company, using the public roads as their beta playground being top of the list.

I'm with you on this. I'll consider an EV when there is price and range equivalency with ICE, and the full charge times on the road are under 30 minutes, preferably 80% in under 15. No, I don't want much.
Short of having to go full hybrid, parts costs aren't that great, and efficiency pays for itself for consumers. I agree that Tesla does a lot wrong. Solar City, with the power walls and solar roofs, does a lot right, though. Also it's not like the other car companies haven't been beta testing shit. It's just that they require a dealer visit for fixing the software issues. I think my Ram has had six recalls since I bought it two years ago, and at least two of them were software. Bush league bullshit.

Unlikely. Coal is down to about 25% of power production in the US, and it's still dropping. Coal is expensive, filthy dirty to land, air, and water, dangerous to mine, and basically sucks in 100 different ways. My cars are charged with solar, NG, and nuclear, but mostly with NG. Why not solar? During the night, the NG plants have to run a baseline of power. All these EVs are basically making use off that baseline, using little more than would have been produced without the cars existing at all.

They sell EVs there like crazy. When the permafrost melts, they're fucked.

The original extra cost is more than paid for with boosted efficiency over the life of the vehicle. How about CA pays the initial cost but you pay back all the efficiency gains? Deal?

The dilithium was for the warp drive. They used some fuel they never named for impulse. About half the original series seemed to be them looking for the damned crystals and having to fight or screw some aliens to get the damned things. About half of the time they were puttering around in impulse because the crystal containment units were broken, blown up, under alien control, Scotty had them under his pillow, etc.

Impulse drives were powered by deuterium fusion reactors. <insert geek snort here>
