bcj - road trips
Going to consolidate things here so it's easier for me to find.
================================================== ====== (originally in the Whiteout photo thread) Just got a Whiteout on Saturday. Went through this thread and found it hard to believe nobody has done this yet edit: in this thread, with their own car. First ! 8) Don't worry. Haven't done it. It's only a quick and cheesy pchop. I know it's supposed to be refined and modest, only on the door panel previous to the handle. It's not a panda though, and there was this huge billboard to get enthused over. That's Seattle over there. ================================================== ====== West Coast trip WA - CA april 2013 ================================================== ====== 04-28-2013 Dewatto, Kitsap Co. WA Took a drive around kitsap today. Up Anderson hill road from Silverdale, around to Seabeck. Took a detour down the Old Holly Road then connected back up. Dewatto Bay Road to the bay for a picture then Tahuya River Road out to the south end, then followed the east coast around to Belfair. Old Belfair Hwy up to Bremerton to meet up with a friend. for a while. On the way home I took the Manette bridge over to west Bremerton and Illahee Road, Brownsville, Keyport, Poulsbo and Lemolo Road back around. Dewatto Bay, Kitsap ================================================== ====== 06-02-2013 San Juan deFuca Hwy 112 Took a drive yesterday out Washington Hwy 112 along San Juan deFuca to the NW most point of the state. It's a very tight road that demands some attention, but supplies some great scenery. Highly recommended. Out near the very west end, a view to the south down the Washington coast. This is what the road looks like mostly. Took a 1/2 mile hike from the end of the road to the corner of the state. This is Tatoosh Island even further out to the north west. ================================================== ====== 13/6/29 E-Bug/Yak/Wenatchee - driving ================================================== ====== July Drive 2013 E-WA, ID, MT ================================================== ====== 08-24-2013 Astoria, OR Stopped by the Longbeach WA Kite festival last night to catch up with old friends. On the way out this morning I stopped by Astoria to catch some pictures from the Astor Tower above town. Tower Astoria Bridge across the Columbia River to the Washington side. ================================================== ====== 09-09-2013 Olympic Loop, Western WA Did the loop around the Olympic Peninsula here in WA yesterday. Crescent Lake Kalaloch Lodge on the ocean Lake Quinault loop with some gravel road ================================================== ====== 05-31-2014 Teapot Dome Gas in Zillah, WA Posterized WWI war memorial - Stonehenge re-creation at Maryhill on the Columbia Gorge. ================================================== ====== 09-08-2014 Mt. St. Helens, WA. Nice Sunday drive. Lowitt turnout near the top. Nose is all bogyed up again ... ================================================== ====== 09-21-2014 Centralia, WA Stopped off in Centralia WA yesterday to catch the Yard Bird ================================================== ====== 09-28-2014 Eastern WA Went for a drive yesterday over the pass on 410, through Yakima to Sunnyside. South from there through Mabton, Bickelton and Klikitat. That route was the target. Came back along Hwy 14 on the north side of the Columbia and then I5. Can see Mt. Hood behind the tree in the middle The other direction from the same spot. Down in one of the canyons. Very tight corners. ================================================== ====== 10-19-2014 West end of Bremerton Naval Shipyard. A bunch of carriers mothballed. The one in front is the USS Independence, next back is the USS Kitty Hawk. Parked in the lot of the HWY 420 pot shop. It's Sunday, so they were closed. ================================================== ====== 11-10-2014 Trip down to Satsop WA to view the surplus concrete nuke towers. Link to post in the Landmarks thread ================================================== ======

Hwy 112 looks fantastic, thanks for the recommendation. Looking forward to trying that in the summer months.
I'm also going to try the North Cascade Hwy (Route 20), seems to be a highly recommended twisty route. Any other recommendations for twisty roads that's somewhat close to the Canadian border? |

@ducky369 - Photoshop. I've amended that photo with more text.
@NLSP - Mt. Baker would be closest I suppose. Most of the Frasier valley is squared off farm roads. Hwy 20 east of Diablo is mostly sweepers rather than twisty. Scenic more like. Would make a nice loop back through Hope BC. edit: Wow! Stars on the Members Forum list page. Thanks

Mar 6, 2015 WA 112 Salt Creek State Park
Took a drive up WA 112 past Port Angeles today.
Always meant to, but never got around to taking shots at Salt Creek State Park. They've got a set of WWII Naval Defense gun emplacements that you can drive through. I think it's cool, anyway. The park is free for day use so you don't need the pass (at this time of year, don't know about summer). The post was named Camp Hayden when it was occupied. The entrance from the inland side where the guns were supplied. Parked in where the original swing guns were mounted. Drive around the front side and exit back through the other gun emplacement. Out on Tongue Point there are some archaic stairs down to the beach. Great day for a road trip.

South Olympics - Lake Wynoochee
Day trip out to Lake Wynoochee Wed. May 20, 2015.
It's on the south side of Olympic Nat. Park. Access is north from Montesano on Hwy 12 / 8. There's active logging going on up there, so keep an eye out for bark chunks on the road as well as log trucks. Posted speed is 40 / 45 and the trucks mostly keep up and hustle it along. On the way back one pulled out just before me so I dialed it back a couple mph and let him trundle on ahead. It's a good pace for the road and I didn't mind looking at the scenery. Pavement ends just past the dam, but there are gravel FS roads from there that fan out all over the south Olympic area. Extra: Post modenistic super secret mad scientist lair of Doc Oc. Kind of trailer trashy though, hanging the laundry out to dry. Kills the esthetic of the design.

Glines Canyon Dam was the final dam removed from the Elwha river in the WA Olympics.
There's a newish viewing area at the top so you can look straight down the rock slot canyon where the dam used to be. Hurricane Ridge up above Port Angeles WA. The clouds have finally parted and I was able to get some pictures up there. South and then East.
