Coolest second cars for the cheap ideas?

Wanting to pick up a daily to mess with the FRS without worry of being car-less. budget is 3-5k - could be a project and just leave the frs the way it is too.
either way...

I want your opinions and your favorite ideas for a car to compliment your FRS on the cheap!

My favorite Ideas in order of favoriteness:

1. 1997-00 LS400 - Luxury + v8 + all that relability + VIP build?

2. 2000 - 07 MR2 - Fun, small, light and again Toyota reliable + 2zz/k20-swapable.. racecar?

3. Small truck - Ford Ranger, old Tacoma - could be useful. only immediate usefulness for a tuck for me would be to carry kayaks...

4. Civic si EP3 2001-05 - k20a + practical

5. 350z 03/04 - I like em but too similar to the frs mabe... but could make racecar?

6. first gen Honda CRV - carry my kayak and reliable/cheap

7. Motorcycle - maybe one of those new honda rebel 500's ... meh

Ive owned a few 240sx so not interested in those anymore.

Im hopeless lol!

MR2 Spyders are a lot of fun to drive, imo. Worth test driving one to see if you feel the same way.

What's your price range and what are you looking for? A winter type beater? Or a fun to drive daily you plan to lightly mod.

lol I was going to suggest IS300 but you already have one

I'd rather get a Hardbody/Hilux than a Ranger/Tacoma, small trucks turned into large cars around 1996 and lost all the things that were cool about them: rugged, easy to work on, cheap to replace things.

Yes, there are Hiluxes in the US, they were built in California:

Integra/RSX/Celica for something kinda fun but cheap reliable DD.

No winter to speak of here in Alabama... Honestly my mind ponders on all the possibilities. really just has to be cool or useful. the price range is in the OP 3-5 grand.

Also curious on what you guys have or would pick as a second to the 86 on the cheap - To add to the fun of the discussion

Sounds like you're open to anything. Therefore whichever of the above you can find for a deal is a go.

considering your choices are all over the place not sure if we can help you make up your mind unless you want people to make choices for you...

from a purely practical standpoint, an AWD SUV or truck would be the best complimentary type of vehicle to go along side a small coupe..

Looking for opinions or what you would choose more than pure practicality, unless that's your thing!

As long as one of the cars is running it doesn't matter so much. my commute to work is only 5 miles.

So you got a twin... that covers the sport... so now you need cheap, fun utility

1. Any year - Honda Fit - $5-10k... Cheap, spacious, great on gas, infinitely moddable
2. 1999-2010 - Chevy or GMC pickup - $10k... Hauls your stuff, parts are nearly free at junkyards

3. 2004-2006 - Toyota Sienna - $10k... It's a minivan
4. 1999-2004 - Nissan Xterra - $5-$8k... respectable light trail chops, classic boxy shape, ladder frame is durable, clean up real nice.

5. 2007 - Honda Accord - $6-$8k... lasts forever, still looks good, good on gas
6. 2007 - Scion XB - $7k but rising... 1st gen Xbox/Lunchbox has hit classic status so nice inventory is dwindling. Still a practical, fun car with great mileage

Where you live I'd not consider any vehicle without working A/C.

That means buying something not too old.

My always advise to just about anyone...Buy something with a J as the first digit of it's Vin.

Personally, I have no clue what this item might be ??? 14' Raven M/T
