FR-S: Chrome turn signal bulb install.

Before anyone flames I didn't take pics of my install. However, there are enough DIY's here that I felt I could just borrow the pics. As it is the same process on all FR-S's.

So with that I would like to give thanks to BR33Z3 and DarrenDriven for their excellent write ups and pictures.

Also, before I start: you are doing this at your own peril. I am not responsible for any issues that may arise from your install. That being said make sure that you hear all of the bulbs click in or you will have bulbs floating inside of your housings.

Again make sure You hear the bulb CLICK or you will have loose bulbs in your housing.

For the rear:

I created this DIY guide to help others. This was a quick and easy mod, but it looks great!

First off you will need to get the bulbs, purchased them off of ebay. The compatible bulbs are 7440 or WY21W.

Materials needed:

(4) Chrome bulbs 7440 or WY21W
Small flathead screwdriver
Gloves (not neccessary but I didnt want oil on the new bulbs)

Here is a comparison picture between the stock and the new chrome bulb.

Now, I will start with the trunk. There is just one pop out plug on each side of the trunk, you can stick a flathead screwdrive under it and pop it out easily. Refer to this picture for the location, it's the same on both sides.

Once you get the plug out, gently pull the cover back and you should see the socket for the bulb. Twist it and you will be able to pull it out. You can see it under the white wireloom, closest to the trunk opening, it's the gray housing.

The bulbs simply pull out of the socket and then just push the new chrome bulbs in.
Again, make sure that the bulbs click in. A good way of knowing if they are in is the difficulty of getting the bulbs back into the housing.

For the front turn signals:

3. The sidemarker itself needs to come out. Pull the inner fender liner away and try your hardest to poke a screwdriver into one of the holes on the back of the sidemarker and pry. Even after I got it out I am still confused as to why Subaru did it this way. Even the owners manual is very vague and the instructions make no sense. Good luck.
Skip step 2 iN Darren's post as you do not need to remove the liner.

You don't need to remove the top pop screw as the liner will allow your hand into where the bulb is by just moving it out of the way.

In step 3 you can see where the bulb is so remove by turning left insert the new bulbs it is important to hear the click of the bulb being placed completely in the harness and reverse the steps to finish the project.

I thought the front signal bulb for the FRS was different (7444 instead of 7440)?

Isnt the front bulb a 7443? And u dont have to remove the side of the bumper like that to get the bulb out. All u have to do is remove 3 tabs and a screw on the bottom of the car and move the plastic flap over. If you have done the DRL delete, its the same procedure.

Nope, its a 7440.

You don't even have to remove the screw at the bottom. The flap moves out just enough to allow your hand in.

Yep. Dual filament required for the parking/running lights and for the turn signal.

Sorry, what I meant above was that 7440 works without any issues.

So the parking lights/turning signal lights work with 7440 bulbs in the front and the back?

Mine no longer work as a parking light with the 7440's. Kind of annoyed. Signal works. I will be ordering a second set of the PROPER bulbs asap
