I've had two S2K's (both AP2's) and loved them. This was before they became affordable to you the younger crowd which has now turned into the hot car to be stanced out. Such a shame.

Uncool

I genuinely don't remember the last time I've seen a stock one, which meant all had massive fart cannons, running 15 degree of camber with 5mm of ground clearance with pink wheels. Owners have destroyed the image of this car despite it's genuine greatness
Exact same thing is happening with our cars.

But you're talking about modified cars and poorly modified ones at that. I see stock ones around here all the time.

Uncool?

If a rwd roadster that's under 2800lbs, makes 240hp out of a 2.0L @ 9k rpms, has a 6 speed gearbox with 3 pedals, an OEM lsd and double A-arm front and rear suspension is uncool.

Then I don't want to be cool.

........I know, it's only going to get worse as the twins value dips in the upcoming years. I cringe the day your average high schooler can grab one of sub 10k

Wanna switch addresses? lol

Yes uncool

Don't get me wrong.... I'd buy one in a heart beat and I'd be uncool with you, but the image of the car has been desecrated over the years despite whats its capable of. It doesn't help that the owners tend to be asses (again always exceptions)

My AP2 is mostly stock, other than the coilovers, wider wheels/tires, and a bit of negative camber. In the Bay Area where I live I've seen plenty of other stock/lightly modified S2000's.

Voting Cool on this one. Loses Subzero because of the extent of the mod market, but I still look at every clean one that passes by me. If I owned a two-seater Japanese convertible, it would be this one, in Yellow.

I love my S2000, as as far as owners, go on S2Ki, they will destroy you for un-tastefully modding one, literally

as for mine, just some wheels(normal camber/size), CF hood and trunk, intake and a test pipe, so no rice here

It has an excellent power to weight ratio, light curb weight, excellent suspension, a responsive engine, and it's a Roadster too. That should be more than enough to make it at least cool if not a sub-zero. IMHO, the other considerations make it uncool.

The S2000 were priced to sell to Honda fanboys. The RX-8 started sales a few years later and you could buy a loaded one for about the same price. When the RX-8 was much bigger, heavier, and also had a hand built engine. Now that it is cheap, certain people are modifying the hell out of them. Making it harder to find a clean used example.(speculation)

The F20C and F22C were unique engine designs that didn't response well to mods.(peruse s2kforums or hondatec) People were looking to swap in the transverse K series just so they could make more power. There was some success turbocharging the stock block but the best examples(IMHO) used race fuel. ("s2k from hell" ran E85)

As for Honda fans, well, the S2000 and the later S2200(unofficially) are still very popular with fanboys. That is bad for good reasons.(brilliant cars are good, popular cars that are rare tend to be expensive/hard to find) Honda fanboys are notorious for their attitude. As if driving a poorman's BMW is something to be proud of... Especially when they could have bought a Z3 or Z4 for the same price at the time.

Then there are the looks and styling. The Roadster is a classic style and there aren't many modern examples. Put a S2000 against a NB Miata and my opinion is that the RX-7 inspired styling wins. It looks, dare I say it, better on the NB. Then there is that sneaky feeling that the S2000 is trying so hard to appear masculine that it reeks of homophobia. It's telling when one is popular among middle aged men, most of which are married to women(as opposed to unmarried), or single young men who try to attract other men.(not judging, just saying) But then again, maybe not.
