So just got a call from my service rep. He said that they narrowed it down to a few parts, and ran down a list of parts that that could be causing the issue. Went on to say that they need to source parts for my car since they don't have any parts available yada yada tada... Basically giving me the run around any time i asked for specifics. Botton line is that they are going to need to keep my car for a MOTHER F!@#ing week while they continue working on it...
Mean while im stuck driving a Yaris for the next week... Going to call back and see if i can get a better ride in the mean time... FML

Typically in Toyota products when there is a cel some or all of the sub-sytems may shut down, depending on the fault - ie abs, vsa, tcs, 4wd etc. Its beginning to look like there are issues with variable valve timing related components on the early production run of these engines. The fix seems simple enough - but do NOT ignore cel's. On a Honda, for instance you could end up with a CKP/CMP out of phase code - the precursor to a timing chain jumping and resulting in bent valves!

Unfortunately this is what happens when you buy a new model in early release. The techs will have had zero training on the vehicle and parts will be scarce for sure. If it turns out there was a batch of mis-manufactured parts made for this engine its likely the replacements will be equally defective. I know you want to drive your car, but relax - it will be repaired.

^^This.

A buddy of mine has a Chevy Colorado that he has to replace the brake light switch on every so often because the part was defective and they just keep replacing it with defective parts. He always keeps a spare in his glove box.

I am not amused. I'm hoping this is an "isolated incident" and corrected quickly and competently. I have been fortunate in not having any problems so far.

I think it's important that everyone reading this that has already purchased a car to keep documentation on all incidents and report them on forums such as this. These reports can help other owners and also give support to arguments with dealerships and manufacturers if/when they say that a specific incident is caused by user neglect or abuse.
As someone else posted, we are the beta testers for these cars - let's protect ourselves while at the same time let Toyota know what flaws they may have so that they can improve the car with the next years release.

They only said I couldn't damage it, no mention of AutoX it.

Just called to see what other options I had. They only cover 35$ a day for loaner cars which limits me to the Econ models basically.
I can pay another $5/day outta pocket for a xB/tC, or $12/day for a Lexus Hybrid.

But seeing as how I have yet to even make a single car payments and this is all covered under warranty I'll be damned if I have to pay for anything out of pocket. Just going to suck up my pride and roll in the Yaris for a few days...

This is the reason why I'm holding off and being a first year production of a new model, I'm not really surprised to see these kind of issues.
