It all depends on your driving record. Number of points from tickets, accidents, etc. Outside of this accident what's the last three years look like for you?

You might get a pass if it's your first one. Who's your insurance provider?

Depends on the police report, really. If they ding you for something like distracted driver, or something it can suck a lot. If it was just an at fault accident, it will go up, but it's not gonna double on you. The other problem could be your age, if you are under 25 you could also see more money go out the window.

When push comes to shove, you can still shop around for insurance through other providers. I like State Farm and have them myself, but I have been looking at other options lately since i got rid of the bikes.

Keep your head up and hopefully things will go your way!

dont always assume that.

there are certain criteria that most insurance companies have before an accident surcharge (for example: like accident forgiveness) can be waived.

in most states they look at;
-prior driving record for last 3-5 years (are there any other incidents -at fault or not?)
-length of time insured with your insurance companies. most companies dont offer or you dont become eligible for accident forgives until your 5 full years with the company and even with 5 full years of tenure it doesnt guarantee that accident forgiveness will apply...
-is accident forgiveness available in your state or at your insurance company?

most if not all rear end accidents are 100% for the driver that rear- ends the other vehicle. because in most cases they will say that you were following too closely, driving faster than safe speed, tailgating, were not aware of your surroundings, distracted... etc (the list goes on, and police or highway reports will be used to match against the stories of each of the parties involved.)

accidents do happen we are human...

i just hope you didnt get a spurious violation in conjunction with the accident. because that will be a double edged sword.

example: speeding ticket AND have the accident (they claim you were speeding, which caused you to not have enough time to slow down, therefore rear ending with the truck in front of you)

Strange things can happen. In 1989 I rear-ended a guy. It was my first accident or ticket ever, and it was his third accident that month! All the damage was to my car. My insurance wasn't touched, and his was cancelled. I don't think it's the norm, however, nor do I think it's how insurance companies play the game anymore. But there you go, old n=1 data.

Exactly why you should take the time to learn from this mistake.

At your age I almost died, not from a car accident, from a tumor. It changed the way I look at life. it slowed me down to enjoy the things I love so I have no regrets whenever my life is meant to end.

In the end this is just a car and you will have a life time of cars. You are okay, and no one else was hurt and that really is good and that's why so many people say it to you.

Life is too short and if you don't learn the first time there may never be a second time.

A full on part out can take years as people come for scraps.
