If they will keep the price in the same range, I am thinking that this car is not getting FA24 in the next model. When I check Subaru models, FA24 is used only with Ascend and in the top models of Outback and Legacy, which are all more expensive than BRZ. Only optimistically possible engine looks like FA20DIT of WRX to me. I think the next model will be turbo since our NA FA20 cannot be squeezed for much more power. If they keep the 12.5 compression, dual injectors and can still turbo it I would love to see it though. I know the aftermarket turbo options for our engines. But I also know that the manufacturers do not work with such tight engineering margins. The most economical solution looks like FA20DIT if they want to stay within the same price bracket.

The other option, I think more likely, is to raise the price to 30-40K range, use a higher performance FA24 turbo, and sell next to STI and as a closer sibling of Supra. This car is not selling in large numbers and making much profit anyway. Higher price, higher performance model could sell better, IMHO.

I wouldn't wait for the next model if you are looking at a sub 30K price range. I would buy while the current model is available.

the engineering for cooling and tuning a turbo car are markedly more expensive and time cost prohibitive than a bigger displacement engine.

In fact if they do it right they could mount it in similar locations and i bet it would use a similar sized radiator.

a turbo car with its various components gets really dicey when it comes to cost.

they could however pull a note from toyota and make a 60k 2.4 turbo model that maybe 2000 units would sell but showrooms would use them as people magnets. but thats getting a little tooo dreamy eyed

it will not be turbo. Just no chance, unless they decide to add Subaru's Japan only so far turbo 1.6.

My dream is a 2.4l NA car coming out in late 2020 but it's probably a pipe dream. I'm seriously starting to consider a 2019 base model 86 because I'm seeing them under $23k.

That is why I think the car will get a price bump and a turbo.

Despite what click-bait sites say, I would be pretty surprised if they make it turbo just because it would become an even bigger threat to the Zupra and other turbo Subies.

A bigger motor, certainly, but my money's on staying NA.

I really hope the next gen 86/BRZ have a simple front bumper akin to the current BRZ/S2K/MK4 Supra/370. Ive actually warmed up to the 86 bumper a lot more but man, the vast majority of people tell me it looks ugly and I can see why.

Too many lines and scribbled in aggression on an otherwise simple/modest looking car can be jarring, and I didn’t even mention the daytime running lights that make it look like an angry insect on the road (or “the emoji for constipation”). A simple bumper is better for a simple, back to basics car, imo.

And no torque dip+more torque please.

It'll be a V12, but a 1.2L that outputs to 212hp and 190tq.

Nah, needs to be a flat 12. Subaru did make one at one point (the S1235). It was a race engine though, so probably wouldn't work.

It didn't work as race engine either! Pity too as it's so pretty.
