Crisis Averted

My 2017 was leaking oil!

So I checked the Fumoto Valve, nope.

Crawling around under the car showed the leak was further forward. My concern was a seal had failed after only 22K miles.

It was down a quart so I went to put in one and I found the source. On my last oil change I must not have tightened the filter tight enough. That is a relief. I will need to be more mindful in the future.

But what is this? Since I was snooping around, I also found a mouse nest. Good thing I noticed the leak or I might have missed the mouse. I didn't see anything chewed, and the fluff didn't contain any poop droppings, so it must have been recent.

Time to clean up the oil mess in the engine bay. Time to get out the traps.

Maybe they saw the leak and were just trying to help you out.

I once drove around town doing errands without putting the filler cap on at all. You want to talk about a mess to clean up...

Lol I did the same thing on my Hyundai once. Luckily, no mess and the cap was right on top of the engine where I left it.

I forgot to tighten a power steering line once. Took the car for test drive, power steering started leaking everywhere on the engine. Massive white smoke coming from engine on 2 minute ride home. Everyone was beeping me. What a mess when I got home my wife thought the car was on fire. That ATF stuff smells too.

Over the decades I have:
Left the cap off
Not tightened the filter.
Blown at leas three power steering hoses.
Had a master cylinder split open.
And at least another half dozen messy situations.

Yeah I did the filler cap thing too. Ford Courier Pickup (Mazda 1800) and drove 100 miles up state. Didn't notice until oil stated to leak out from the sides of the hood.

Now when I take off the oil cap I put it over the latch bar so I can't shut the lid without putting the cap back.

<sigh>
