I'm having a similar dilemma, the FRS is going back at the end of the year and I'm not loving it as a DD. So getting something a little nicer for the long haul drives and something I can track without worrying too much about it.

My problem is that I don't want a convertible. I have a similar budget (under $10k) and I'm seriously leaning towards an e36 M3. Struggling to find other cars that fit my criteria as well.

Lol my buddy has one, they're just way too small.

All these 944 threads have opened my eyes though.

Lol! That's an old school family car/sleeper. NOT a sports car.

Problem with 240s is douchebag 17 year olds who want 7,000 for one cause it has ISIS coilovers, a welded diff and a single cam KA with an exhaust.

But it "would make a great drift car"

Unless starting with a shell, 240s aren't even worth the bullshit. I'd probably take a 350z before a 240 and I can't stand Zs

I have owned 3 AW-11 MR2's.

And I currently own a Mint Condition NA 91 British Racing Green Miata (I got it from my Grandpa...been eyeing it since I was 11 years old).

I think both of those would fit what you want...

Easy to work on. Good aftermarket support for the MR2 (4AGE).

AMAZING aftermarket for the Miata.

Some other cool cars...

Celica-Supra (RWD and Toyota reliability).

Dodge/Mitsubishi Starion/Clarion/Conquest. Iono about how good they are as a DD. But they are cool looking and have a dedicated community. If I was a better mechanic, I would strongly consider buying one. (I say better as in...I can take off broken part and replace with new part. I cannot fabricate anything...and parts seem rare for those cars.)

So my advice... Anny generation Miata. Or any generation MR2 (to include MR-S).

It doesn't matter what they have. It could have a Ferrari engine for all I care. The engine does not make it a sports car. It would make one badass sleeper or a drift car. But it is NOT a sports car.

Think if I said the Lexus GS300 or Toyota Aristo is a sports car because it came with a 2JZGE/GTE.

Good point...

A 2JZ engine in a tercel would not be a sports car...and neither would a 2JZ in a Tundra or a 4Runner.

Some cars do blur the lines nicely (IS300 for example). They can ride really nice, and they can be tuned to be sporty.
