Reliability issues with solid transmission mounts

Yeah, sorry I forgot to mention the tire sidewall during a rainstorm. That's called cherry picking, by the way. It's a logical fallacy. And none of these rubber bushings make the car safer for road performance or more dangerous if you replace them. They make it quieter. There's no reason any of these "autocross" or "track" modifications won't work just as well on the street. You can actually improve the car beyond manufacturer specifications, you know. It's ok to mod your car beyond factory-provided parts. Even if it wasn't, STI and TRD offer stiffer bushings, firmer springs, shorter shifters, all kinds of things. Are those dangerous on the road? I mean, that's not the way the car comes from the factory, so it must be.

What do you mean it is cherry picking? A road car is supposed to be driven in all conditions, including winter period. Additionally, road pavement is not always perfect. You'll have areas where a dry road pavement is as much slippery as a wet track pavement. There is no logical fallacy.

Anyways, I won't argue more on this. If you believe that "autocross" or "track" modifications work on the street, then it is fine with me.

Some bushings CAN cause reliability and safety issues. If the arm doesn't move on only one axis, if the bushings are rigid, the arm will be forced to twist, eventually causing a failure from metal fatigue.

An arm like the trailing arms on our cars is exactly what I'm talking about.

Regardless, if you're going with STI components you'd be fine as they're considered OEM+ components.

Also, if you want whine, just remove the noise suppressor from the radio

For a street car, it's better to keep it on the stock engine/transmission mounts.

In a severe impact, the mounts are designed to shear so your engine and transmission disconnect from the car.

I'm going psycho, I bought solid trans mounts to see what kind of nonsense ensues. Anyone else recently fitted a completely solid trans mount? For 53 bucks I had to know. For science.

For drivetrain mods I have:
Whiteline diff carrier bushing inserts
Whiteline transmission insert
Energy Suspension rear shifter bushing
MTEC shift springs (very highly recommend these. It strengthens the shifter's return to center.)

If you're after gear whine, do the diff bushing inserts. If you like those but you'd like a little more, then do the subframe inserts.

I can do a bit of maintenance in my garage, but nothing like some of these guys. None of those mods were difficult, so if you have the space it's a great way to learn. There's a lot of good info in the DIY section. If you're looking for a shop around LA, go to CounterSpace Garage. They are awesome. They're also a very active vendor on here.

Bit old but after reading your posts would these make much of a difference with automatic transmissions? Seems more geared for manual feedback

Bushings are always a great addition to improve car responsiveness, doesn't matter the transmission type. As long as you can put up with some additional NVH, which everyone has a different threshold for, you will enjoy the stiffer bushings.

Any amount of flex that bushings have translates to wasted energy that could've went to the tires/ground.

As people have mentioned, the cars are assembled with softer bushings so the ride is quiet and comfy.

Did you do the Megan mount? I've had the inserts in for a while now and a plethora of other bushings and wouldn't have it any other way!

No I did the Sideways Fab mount. Bushings are some of the best mods you can do to any car!
