That's the idea though. The NA car should be low $20k. I'm not paying for less than 200hp. It could be the drive of a lifetime. It better have at least 200hp (+/- 5hp), and there is no way you are going to turbo such a car and get only 230hp, even with radically lower compression and revs.

I see an NA version at about $23k, Turbo at about $27k and the stripped down track version at just under $22k, probably with stiffer suspension and the brakes from off the turbo version.

Honestly, I wouldn't pay more than $24k for 230hp, unless the car weighed as much as an atom (which the ft-86 won't) and at that price, the NA version would have to come in at under $19k, which it won't.

So pretty much you're saying that you're not goin' to buy this car w those prices tags?

At 170hp the NA would cost around $20k-21k. At 230hp it would cost around $23k-24k. Pretty reasonable to me.

Definitely going to be disappointed if the NA version is indeed just 170hp... Was hoping for 200hp NA, 250+ for turbo but I guess we need to wait for official specs to be announced before getting too judgemental...

I'm saying that I predict that is how it will be priced and that is just fine with me.

I'm not worried. 170hp NA FT-86/Celica GT and a 230hp Turbo GT-S still leaves room for a 275+hp TRD model a couple years down the line for the mid cycle refresh.

I don't care how much this thing is going to cost, i'm buying one the second it comes out.
You can't nit-pick a few grand on a car that's already going to probably outperform anything in it's price bracket.

Regardless of the HP rating on a turbo version (if indeed true), it's probably going to be a stronger built engine compared to the N/A engine. I'm sure Blouch or Cobb can you help you get to 270hp and then some!

You would be lucky to get 20 hp to the ground.

It's coming with an all aluminum 3.2L 3JZ.. didn't you hear?

Fact remains, we do not know how much it will weigh. I don not expect the NA version to weigh less than 2600lbs. I wouldn't expect a turbo version to be much less than 2800lbs.

Under 5.5 s to 60 sounds about right for 260-270hp. That's what I envision for a turbo version. Along with the requisite larger brakes etc.
with a boost controller, intake, exhaust & downpipe, and possibly some sort of tune, i could easily see adding 60+ hp to the car. i'm talking bhp, not whp right now.

for example: MR2 turbo. stock usdm is 200hp, roughly 160whp. that's running at 10psi. the stock turbo, engine, and fuel system can easily handle 14-15psi, all day every day. it's been documented MANY MANY times that on the 3SGTE running a stock setup, 14-15psi is right around 200whp, a gain of 40whp with no other mods, only a $40 ball-and-spring boost controller.

add intake, full exhaust including downpipe, and you're talking 220whp or so. 60whp more than stock. take into account 20% drivetrain loss (200-160)/200, so WHP = BHP * .8, divide 220whp by .8, and you get 275bhp. so roughly an increase of 75bhp over stock with easily under $1000 invested.

here are some examples if you don't believe me:

Oh, I believe you, and it know that very well. At no point However, did he ever mention using aa boost controller though. Also, remember we are talking about an "unknown" DI engine, who knows what Trurbos, etc etc. I'm sure you see my point. Further more, you know all of that is going to void you warranty faster than you can get to 60 right?

I'd rather a 200hp NA, 270hp Turbo leave room for a 350+hp TRD version.

IF they made TRD Turbo ver (which my guess on TRD ver is NA) I think it'll be bout 300hp (240hp for NA TRD ver)... but it'll be crazy/awesome to see if they did 350+hp TRD Turbo ver.

lol. TBH I don't expect to see a factory 350hp version. I think it'd be closer to 320 or something like that. It would be crazy to see, but that would come quicker form the subbie side of the equation or maybe a company like Cosworth, Top Secret, Mines or JUN.

right, and it was his mistake to not mention a boost controller. i do see your point, and i think it'll be interesting for all of us to see what engine they come out with, and how it responds to mods.

i plan on an n/a version anyway, so no boost controllers or anything for me! maybe an exhaust, but that's about it as far as engine mods go. i don't have any big desire to DD a turbo car, heh. :happy0180:

I wanna see how Mines tune the Turbo ver & Amuse for NA ver. They both do awesome job on their suspension set up and ECU re-mapping.
