MPG

Anyone else getting below avg MPG? The most I have gotten is 25.7 MPG on the indicator and that was on road trip from Moorpak to Solvang to Hearst Castle and then back to Moorpark (about 380-400 miles). The car is auto and stock with only after market air intake installed.

I suspect your "indicator" is messing with you.

I's suggest you check your mileage the old fashioned way ...... fill to click off, note mileage, drive, fill to click off, note mileage, note fuel used ...... divide the little number into the big number.

Making that trip with an auto, you should be getting from 31.4 to 39.7 MPG.

I think it's been a decade or two since you've driven that, there's quite a bit of traffic nowadays that will sink that mileage into the 20's just like OP noticed.

OP, EPA fuel economy is ~27mpg mixed driving for an automatic, if you can set the cruise control for 65mph and leave it there for 95% of a tank of gas you will absolutely see >32mpg. If you take your car to the track and drive it hard you will see <13mpg. I do not believe anything is wrong with your car.

LOL. I wouldn't mind the low MPG if there wasn't some slow drivers in the canyons and not allowing me to have fun. Need to make that trip again on a weekdays..

Not really necessary to go to all that trouble to get to >32MPG. My lifetime average is over 33MPG (calculated), and I spend most of the 80,000+ Miles commuting at speeds between 25 and 65MPH. I rarely have a set speed, or use the cruise control, and race away from just about every stoplight (not spinning the tires mind you, but no soccer Mom in the mystic 5 second Odyssey has ever beat me off the line)

I'm beginning to think I have the magic mileage edition though since I seem to be outside the norm.

You are the perfect example that what you drive in has infinitely more impact than HOW you drive, furthering my point.

My old commute AVERAGED 25 mph, I never saw north of 45. No guessing either, my 25 mile commute took me 1 hour during peak traffic (thank god for flexible workplaces, <30 minutes if I left home before 6am). It would have been great to brag about an average of even 30 mph, and sounds like you average closer to 40+. You're right, there's not much trouble involved in getting over 32mpg, other than changing your life around to reduce traffic.

And based on OP's 2nd post in this thread, sounds like he's got a pretty heavy foot to boot.

And before you cry 'But Atlanta has the worst traffic in the nation!' statistically Atlantans spend ~25% less time in traffic than LA/SF citizens per the first google result that shows up.

Nope not going to claim that because I don't drive in Atlanta traffic. I go the opposite direction, driving 80 miles round trip away from Atlanta. True I rarely sit still which is the real "drinker" of gas on a commute.
