Now if they are just stuck on there...
Yeah I don't get it But then they drool over some off brand 20X12 wheels that have insane offset with the cheapest tires you can get wrapped around them.

The only outward clue that my car is modded is the hood duct, diffuser, and gurney flap. Otherwise it is usually dirty and I roll around on stock wheels on the street.

This actually made me think of a local who took it to the extreme. If you google "Ottawa Honda accord" it's the second photo in images, and you get linked to various stages of the car.

i can respect that. i'd rather talk to this guy than any owner of a 'pristine, numbers matching' anything.

Kind of need them since I'm FI and temps are a bit high, but I don't want that instagram clout.

You're letting people on a social app dictate your life decisions based off backlash that could be received for something completely harmless?

Okie dokie then.

Okay, I can agree with you on that. That has also been true in my experience, they tend to have an ego. At the same time, I also have friends who have done some things I would consider “ricey”, and I’ve let them know how I’ve felt about XYZ mod they’ve done to their car, but don’t think any less of them because of it. I guess for me, I respect everyone equally until they do something to lose it.

For the record, I want to buy a Varis hood at one point, and I plan on doing exactly as you described, though I would leave the vents unpainted because racecar.

This is a very simple difference in my mind.

RICE
A bunch of stickers for parts you don't have
Cheap knockoff body kits and aero that don't fit right, are unpainted and usually damaged.
Big Ebay park bench wing when all you do is trundle from parking lot to parking lot in a stock powered car.
Lowering by cutting springs and making own brackets.
Stick on Walmart auto vents, scoops, etc
Tribal graphics
Plasidipped lights
Lambo doors.

Not Rice
A bunch of stickers for parts you do have on the car.
Well fitted and finished brand name body kits and aero.
Any quality wing or spoiler on a car that actually hits a track where it can function as intended.
A well balanced and appropriate to use lowering suspension.
Properly installed and finished vents and scoops intended to force air or remove heat from modified engines.
Tribal graphics if you are still in 1998.
Properly tinted and DOT approved lights.
Lambo doors if you own a Lamborghini.

Notice the trend there?

If you are pretending the car to be something it is not then it is rice. If it can do what the parts claim it is not.

Key word is Pretending. Similar to a poser. Ricers = Posers

Like Brembo Caliper Covers.

Fun how the term has evolved over the years. If we go back a ways then every single one of us that owns a Japanese car is a "Ricer"

Mid 60s to early 70s - The Harley crowd referred to any of the new influx of Japanese bikes as "Rice burners"

Early 70s to later mid 70s - As more and more Japanese cars came over the term crossed onto them. Didn't matter what make or model or if stock or modified if it came from Japan it was a "rice burner"

Mid 70s to mid 80s- The term got shortened to "Ricer" but still applied to all Japanese cars. Grandpas old 4 door base Camry was "Rice"

Mid 80s to early 90s - The term no longer applied to all cars just the performance ones. That old Camry was now off the hook but the Supra was "rice" to the majority of the North American built car culture.

Early 90s to now - The term "ricer" is applied to only those modification that an individual doesn't like. It no longer even really applies to the car itself but to what has been done to it.

I actually dispute that JDM is all Japanese cars. In fact it is a pet peeve of mine when people misuse it. It get's misused A LOT!
JDM is Japanese DOMESTIC Market. North America is an import market here and an export market in Japan.
Sure you can get some JDM parts to throw on your car but the car will never ever be JDM unless you imported a RHD vehicle that was actually built for JAPAN.

True, USDM vs JDM can be different.
