Thinking of going staggered 18x8.5 +42 / 18x9.5 +45 wheels. What tire size combo would you recommend and why?

Update: I'm leaning toward the wider rears because I want no stretch:

235/40-18 & 265/35-18 (3.2% & 2.8%)
245/35-18 & 265/35-18 (0.5% & 2.8%)

Now why would I want to go with 245 vs 235 in front?

I'm running 255/40/18 on my 18x9.5 wheels, handles and looks great.

Same here, 18x9.5 255/40R18 square but my front tires very faintly rub the inner wheel well under full lock due to the +45 offset. What's your offset?

Ah, I see.

Also +45 but those are on my rears. Fronts are 225/40/18 +45 and obviously no rubbing.

I run a square 265/35/18 setup. Obviously you're not looking for that, but I have to say, throwing 265's in the rear not only looks good, but also drastically changes the way the car handles.

I'm running 245/35/18 square MPSS on staggered wheels.

215/45/17 stock = 20lbs Out side diameter = 24.62
245/35/18 MPSS = 22lbs Out side diameter = 24.75
255/35/18 MPSS = 25lbs Out side diameter = 25.03
265/35/18 MPSS = 26lbs Out side diameter = 25.30

A 22lbs tire is 10% heavier than stock. A 25lbs tire is 25% heavier.

edit, stock primacy is 20 not 21... fixed

Bump. Almost set on 245/40-18 & 265/35-18 or 235/40-18 & 265/35-18 which no one has voted for. Those are the best fit sizes to the rim widths with no sidewall stretch.

The 235/40 & 265/35 have the closest Outside diameter.

So, I guess it comes down to which tire you are getting. sizes vary quite a bit between tires.. just as an example, two popular tires.
Mpss 235/40/18 tread width =8.5
Mpss 265/35/18 tread width = 9.8
AD08 R 235/40/18 tread width =9.1
AD08 R 265/35/18 tread width 10.3

I'm leaning towards Hankook Ventus V12 evo2 which are much narrower than those. I don't want the rear 265 tires to rub the rear bumper tab and trying to avoid shaving it.

8.5 and 9.1 tread width for the evo12 in those sizes. Should give great performance and a nice look! Can't confirm it won't rub, though I think it would be really minimal, if at all.

I've got 245/35/18 and 255/35/18.
I personally have no problem with the feel of it though while I'm still na it is definitely well overtyred. I imagine this would be even more so with even wider rears.
Unless you are incredibly talented you really won't notice the extra 2.5lb per side (yes I understand it's rotational so let's please not argue about this here).
Get some rims that are 2.5lb lighter and problem solved.

Yes my 18x9.5 +45 wheels are about 16 lbs plus I'm supercharged. I want 265 Hankook V12 in rear just not sure if it will rub

235/40-18 & 265/35-18 (3.2% & 2.8%)
245/35-18 & 265/35-18 (0.5% & 2.8%)

Step the rear tire up three sizes to maintain a similar diameter. So, 215f/245r, 225f/255r, 235f/265r. That kind of thing. Most popular on an 8.5/9.5 setup is either 225f/255r (very slight stretch, close to OEM diameter) or 235f/265r (no stretch, taller than OEM).
