Couldn't care less, though they were a selling point for SWMBO. I am definitely in @86MLR's 20%. I figure that if anyone ever insists on me using them, they will never ask again, but I DO have back seats.

Yeah, I personally think this car is quite practical. The rear seats have been great as just another cargo space area to put my backpack in and my tennis gear. Plus, I've had a few friends in the back and the seats do their job.

Quick story: My friends and I went for a 20 mile trip. So I'm 5'11. I had two of my friends, one is 6'1 and another is 6'5 in the backseats and they said they were comfortable. You can imagine how close I was to the steering wheel. I had another friend who is 5'7 in the passenger seat. I had doubts of them being comfy until they said once your legs go numb, you feel comfortable haha

I thought I would never have to use the back seats. Most people don't even realize my car has backseats because they see that it is a small coupe. In random turn of events, I've had to suddenly give people rides in the backseats and they were all quite fond of it. One of them even likes the sloping rear window because it's almost like a moonroof.

Personally, I don't think of them as backseats but more like "storage space" akin to a hatchback that is legally acceptable for passenger. It's great for bags and whatnot when you don't want to use the trunk.

I keep the seats down all the time, tell people it's a two-seater and use it to get out of having to drive when a work group goes to dinner. Eventually I'll buy one of the delete kits to turn that area into storage.

My back seat is just cushioned shelf. I let someone ride back there a couple of times and they hated it.

The only time I would remove my rear seats was if I got a half cage.

Only reason I would get a half cage is if I got a fixed back seat.

Only reason I would get a fixed back seat is if I got a 6 point harness.

I really cannot see a issue with the rear seat, I must not be looking hard enough.

Disclaimer: I did the rear seat delete in my R33, can you guess why.....yeap, half cage, fixed seat and 6 point, becausetrackcar....

My wife feels the same way. I personally don't mind it, but she never liked the cramped interiors in some of my previous two-seat cars (Boxster S, 350z) and in convertibles we've test-driven together (S2000, Miata).

Definitely. It's surprising how much stuff fits with the rear seats folded.

It wasn't a selling point for me at all when buying the car (the coupe/fixed-roof design was much more important), but recently I've had to start using my FR-S to pick up the kid from day-care and the rear seats have become absolutely critical.

So yeah, I love them now. They are literally saving me from having to trade my car in.

I wouldn't have bought it if it didn't have back seats.

In fact, insurance for my BRZ is higher than any of the 2 seater cars that I’ve owned.
It depends on the state. In NY the difference is usually about 10% less for a 2 door car with back seats than without although the difference can be wider on exotics. Miatas not so much but on a Lotus you'll get dinged pretty hard.

Nobody has ever ridden in my back seat. Therefore, for me, the padding is a few inches of wasted space that could be better utilized for storage.

If all you want is a shelf, you have it with the seat down. If you want a shelf plus a little more secure storage space where your compressor, emergency kit and extra shoes don't roll around when you take a hard corner or two, the seat delete is an answer.

Coming from a huge-ass (literally) station wagon, they are kind of like, ok, those are cute.

They are what they are. My only gripe is that Toyota did not take care to insure fitting points for a Schroth QuickFit harness.
