Camry sales could be through the roof, but you wouldn't know it by looking at slurry of them on lots, right? maybe they are making more? Maybe sales have slowed in the winter? Who knows.

I'll tell you first hand, right after I bought my car I thought maybe I should have waited a month or two. Nothing worse than taking a brand new car through salt and slush. I'm sure there are plenty of others who are thinking the same, and waiting for Spring.

The dealer where I got mine had 8 of them, they had exactly what I wanted to.

A lot of cars could be sitting on lots due to markups. My local dealer has an FR-S with the Five Axis and wheels for ~$33k.

Surprised no one has linked to the actual sales numbers yet:

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10766

Sales from 1/13-2/13: 1369 cars

3 mo. prior avg: 1429 cars (+4.4%)

6 mo. prior avg: 1407 cars (+2.8%)

So it looks like sales were down slightly (less than 5%) over the last full month, but probably too small to be very meaningful. The 2/13-3/13 sales numbers should be released soon, that should give us a better idea.

I hope they stay low, don't want to see one on every corner.

My dealer put a $500 incentive on his, so that's why I wound up getting mine. Everyone else is firm with the no-haggle pricing, but I got them to throw in some keychains at least, and stacked it with the military discount. Financing is something I don't like however; so I'll probably pay off the rest of the car in a couple of months.

I said it 9 months ago and I'll say it again:

Initial demand is dead, they'll sit on the lots just like Miata's and Mustangs. They aren't that great on paper and it really is a niche demand, it will be lucky to compete with Miata sales and will likely fall down into RX8 territory.

Edit for reference:
http://www.miata.net/faq/production/...Y1989-2006.pdf
http://www.goodcarbadcar.net/2011/01...s-figures.html

FRS is on target to hit a middling number of units sold compared to the Miata, optimistically we're looking at 17,000 units for the first model year.

I'd never buy a miata or an RX8 but I did buy an FRS. I don't think those comparisons are valid, based on both media and customer response to the twins. I just went through the purchase process and couldn't get a BRZ at all in a timely manner. I could get an FRS, but color and option choice was still constrained. Both cars are selling at MSRP/Pure Price without incentives or discounts.

Will it slow down? Of course. All first-year cars do. But I think sales will remain consistent if the manufacturers can keep price creep down in subsequent years. This car doesn't get cross shopped very much so they don't need to sell a ton of them for it to remain relevant.

Why aren't they valid? All three are cars built for reliability, RWD fun, and handling with what are perceived as weak engines, they fill the exact same market despite whatever reasons you disqualified them (I didn't consider them very much either, hate convertibles, would rather a 7 over an 8 for rotary goodness)

Media and customer response are generally positive but there are many who don't get it, just go to any story about them and read the comments saying how it's slow and junk). It's very easy to wear rose colored glasses around here while there are dozens collecting snow up North and people not willing to put up with the wait and unaccommodating dealers in other areas.

I see BRZs are quite available too.

(I really don't like JohnPhil's here. I had a few times of experience with them. The sales persons were anything but being friendly. I think for a dealer like them, it's hard to have competitive pricing. The only leverage they have in sales department should be on the personality side. )

Saw that the March numbers have been released and thought of this thread. Oddly, looks like sales were up significantly for this period.

Sales from 2/13-3/13: 1828 cars (+30% over 6 mo. avg)
