The fact they blew the motor and they installed it means they're responsible for it, IMO.

I would recommend trying To be civil, and if/when they push you back, get a lawyer. Check any of your paperwork also. Make sure you didn't sign away any liability in their part. They installed the part, and theyblew the motor. It wouldn't surprise ,e if they took it for a bit of a joy ride and blew it...

Oh you got the same kit? Do you have a red FRS? He told me the kit was being tested for prototype by his shop before production. I took it to his shop 1mo ago to have the kit put on & he called me 1 afternoon when he had the car to tell me the fitting was off & had to be sent back... 1mo later now the kit is being put on & now this happens. I wasnt expecting that kind of sound from the BoV, was looking for more of a woosh but I guess it'd grow on me. But for now, I need an engine again, now to go through all this crap, rly sux. I sent jamesm a msg btw, thx for the recomendation. I wouldnt even mind learning to do most of my own car work. I stopped taking it to the dealer after they double washer'd by oil pan nut and I was having oil leaks.. Cant seem to trust anyone but yourself

My guess is that it was the tuner's fault that the engine blew up. My understanding from Kelly is that Olympic doesn't really know what they are doing tuning these motors. I will add you to my list of blown motors. Was it being tuned on 93 octane or E85?

Sounds to me like this was the result of prior damage due to the oil filter fiasco. You stated the oil filter was previously installed incorrectly and leaking which could've starved the bearings for oil. Throw a turbo on it and that already weakened bearing says "you know what you've abused me enough, I quit!" And he leaves a giant hole in the block on his way out. It's their fault plain and simple

I don't know what sort of rep Olympic has, this is not the 1st blown motor you've heard coming out this shop?
Tuned for 93 octane & was running 93 octane when it happened. Been using 93 since day 1. Haven't touched E85 at all yet.

Also just a general car tech question.. how feasible is it the fuel pump just quits & turbo'd engine explodes like that? Now i'm just curious in general if these things happen just like that. Are there any warning signs or do you just lose your engine?

if installed incorrectly it could definitely suffer studden starvation issues. take a look at how many o-rings/spacers were used on the install.

He said the mechanical pump for the DI failed not the one in the tank. Any good tuner should've caught that before the catastrophic failure happened

That's a bit over my head, Im not that pro yet But what he was saying was the mechanical fuel pump failed and because its direct injection thats why it blew w/ the turbo... I'm just trying to get an idea of what is the most likely situation that occured while he had the car.. Did he mistune? did the fuel pump quit but he was pushing too hard? if the fuel pump quit wouldnt the car just stop? Just fishing for probably explanations for this sort of thing. thanks!

They said the DI pump failed? My assumption is that it would be extremely durable since it's mechanical.

If that actually was the cause, then it was probably their fault anyways and they should be putting in a new engine at no cost to yourself. The fact that they offered to do the install for free is admission of guilt in my books. I think they're just trying you on to see if you would pay for the parts to minimize their own loss.
