Despite all this however, the CTR isn't what I'm looking for personally. It looks overly-aggressive, as if you're overcompensating for something, and owning one won't be cheap. The limited production run make it hard to get one without substantial markups, and buying a full set of tires for the 19" wheels is pricey.

I'd rather have the classic lines and lower cost of entry that you get with the Twins, and no matter how much tech you put into a FWD car it won't have the dynamics of a RWD platform. Both the Twins and the CTR are great cars in their own right, but I think it would be hard for me to walk away from a Twin as opposed to a CTR.
Hey nice to see someone also from the OC! I get your point and definitely agree with the looks. As a 30-year-old, I definitely like the classic lines of the twin better. However, also as a 30-year-old with family, the hatch means better utility. The twin can be bought for slightly below invoice but won't hold its value as well because it is not limited production. CTR has some crazy markups now and I personally wouldn't get one in the first 6 months. However, what if down the road in 6-12 months, you could get a CTR at or even slightly under MSRP?

We live in a such good time now. It's almost as if all the car companies (Subaru, Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Ford) timed it so that they could release all our dream cars from our high school years.

Car is slowly growing on me, I will see how this plays out. Honda is supposedly using this engine to replace the Accord V6 as well surely a detuned variant of it.

Yeah I don't see prices going down for at least two years. 2700 first year and 3000 annually after are the production numbers. They'll be enough demand to exceed that

That car sounds exactly like what I imagine a factory turbo honda would sound like.

Probably sounds cool with a tune and a muffler delete though.

This coming from a guy who's car sounds like an over-revved truck from the factory...

The market for performance cars is small, hype will be dead in a year and near MSRP will be certainly achievable. It's happened over and over and over again with pretty much any car <$100k.

Hell, Volvo built <200 Polestars the first year and the last few were sitting on the lot for months. I just checked and this past winter some dealerships were offering a $4k rebate on new ones.

Check back in a year, they will be sitting on dealer lots like any other car. I think 6 months is stupid optimistic, even the 86 market was nuts for nearly a year well into 2013.

Rebates come from Manufactures not dealerships. The dealership can apply to help make the deal but depending on what region they don't have to apply it or even disclose it just depends how fast they want to clear up their floor plan.

And they decided that they needed it to move this super rare hot performance edition of their regular car not 2 years after release. These things had >$10k markups to $70k+ in the beginning, now the exact same car is listed for $56k.

Much much smaller production numbers than the CTR. My point is that the CTR will not be overpriced for more than a year, especially if you're willing to shop outside of an area where price gouging is common.

I wonder how much people were paying for brand new BRZs in 2012.

I know a few went for >$40k, so ~$15k markup, a lot of that padding was for cheap aftermarket wheels, body kits, seat covers, floor mats, exhaust, etc. I saw dozens in person marked over $30k.

FR-S by the way as I wasn't interested in the BRZ.

For those of you looking to buy a CTR, there is a thread over on the Civic forum that lists a lot of dealers, quite a few are not charging a markup. Head over there, take a look, and start contacting the ones that don't charge a markup.

I just did a quick search on Truecar. As a comparison, Focus RS is still selling slightly above MSRP; Golf R can be had for >$1000 off MSRP. My prediction: after a year, CTR will be sold for around MSRP around the country. We are all car people here. The un-brainwashed out there probably think it's just a riced-out Civic with a big ass wing. People paying any kind of markup for a CTR are simply making an irrational decision, unless they absolutely need a car now and wouldn't consider anything other than a CTR.

On the other hand, I hope the CTR will drive down prices for the Twin so I can get a better deal.
