This thread continues to cruise, at right around 4k rpm. No damage to thread I can see.

Back-in-the-day, there was no marked "red line"; "redline" was when the engine stopped accelerating or it beat itself to death or it blew up -

I found the final redline a couple of times. Once with an automatic.

Something like that. Was fine with just the number one carb but when the the other two opened up...

Luckily it was not the built engine but one we were experimenting with.

Although I doubt the built one would have popped anyway.

Times have changed ....

I am an old fart so can remember 'cruising' along at freeway speed limits with the stick shift in the fourth and final gear. Was impressed the first time I saw a car with a 5th gear. My internal 18 year old is amazed he has a car with a 6th gear.

Yep, old timer, as you remember, automobiles with manual transmissions started with two forward gears, then to three forward gears, then four forward gears, then five forward gears, now six forward gears are common.

Really, how many do we actually need -

My three on the tree Dart was pretty fun as a daily driver/cruiser, all things considered.

When I picked up my 86 I told the sales guy that was the last stick shift I'd driven, he had no idea what I was talking about...

I'm 33 and already yelling at clouds. Doing great here, folks.
