That's one advantage (for me) that my 2013 FR-S has over my departed 2006 Miata. The FR-S has a taller top gear which allows less rpms (thus quieter) at cruising speed.

I am actually not all that fond of my MPG since it is a true indicator of how rarely I get to play.
I'm around 24 mpg always and it's honestly starting to hurt my wallet a little bit. With the amount of driving I do that's about a full tank/week and we all know how much 94 octane costs.... Thank god I don't have a bigger engine.

This thread demonstrates why smokers never quit. They know it shortens their life but because it’s hard to quantify they ignore the consequences.

I can honestly say I've never looked, and don't care. I buy gas when the price is, "good", and try to avoid it when it isn't.

The thing that the Americans don't get is that we pay far, far more for gas here. Wasn't bad while the price was lower for the last year or so (which knocked the crap outta our dollar) but it is creeping back up and gets expensive fast. I normally don't even look at the price since if I need gas I need gas and don't care how much it costs but yesterday, after the pump went past $60 and was still going I became a bit concerned. Apparently 91 in Windsor right now is $5.96 a gallon ($1.59 litre). Since 94 can go for 30 cents a liter more that would make it almost $7 a gallon. I can easily go through a tank and a half a week even at my great MPG.

94 is not 30 cents a litre more than 91.

While I totally agree, I wouldn't factor in MPG when selecting a sports car but it just so happens this car does get good MPG. Why sabotage that by running 4th at on the interstate? Last night on the way home I was at 74 in 6th and the MPG gauge (yes I know it's not 100% accurate) was indicating 38. Downshifted to 5th and held steady for a while. It dropped to 26. I just don't see the sense in running lower gears when cruising... you aren't accelerating.

But this is like the 40th time I've explained this.

Can be. Not is. At least around here. It varies depending on market and there are not many places local that have it so they charge more.

Can be 30 cents/litre more than 87. Not 91.

I've still never gotten to 19mpg. All city driving, idling at lights, and start-stop between stop signs.

I'm at about 27.2. I'm sure if I didn't rag it all the time I could get that up around 30 like a lot of guys on here do. I only get about 17 in my IS300. But as an experiment, get this.... for a week I cruised in 5th in places I normally would have been cruising in 4th. Jumped to 24. Still not even where the factory spec is, because I drive like a nut. The 2JZ is so smooth you would creep up and not notice. I don't have that problem in my tractor. It begs to be shifted.
