Local group. They are so sweet and polite then they jump on stage and all that rage comes out. It's pretty wild.

Impatient assholes ftw.
Many of the managers in my line of work (multi million/billion $$ aerospace contracts) are exactly that.
They can get away with impatient asshole as long as they have the support personnel to restrain them when they get over-zealous.
Otherwise 'pushy and blind to schedule reality' seems like a requirement in those types of leadership roles.

The random thoughts thread seems like the most appropriate place for this Hypothetical question I asked my wife yesterday:

If the CEO Of British Petroleum walked into an Amish Woodworker's shop and said:
"I just chopped down the biggest redwood in California and I want YOU to make me the biggest baddest desk the world has ever seen for my Mega-Yacht".

Can the woodworker tell him?:
"No - I don't believe in your modern lifestyle OR your treatment of the environment, so please take your business elsewhere".

"Nothing is impossible for the man who doesn't have to do it himself."

The trick is to push people hard enough so they do their very best, but no harder.
One of my early role models, a project manager back then, came by my desk one late Friday evening and said
"I've just been chewed out by the CEO for being unreasonable and demanding too much of you code monkeys.
So now my dear boy. I'm just going to ask you, in a very friendly tone, what time on Monday I can expect your fucking overdue module to be done."

Some people need both a carrot and a stick to perform optimally.
I'm one of them. My comfort zone is just ahead of the stick with the carrot still in sight.

But you're right. True leadership is much more than that.

I think the woodworker would understand that chopping trees is part of the deal...
