The pin pretty much had to be forced into the shifter, which I should have known was very wrong. I have a very early FR-S, bought before they were officially realeased... maybe they changed it, or maybe the CAE shifter I have was too tight compared to the others, as both the spacers and pins were extremely tight. The pin was definitely overstressed from basically being swage fitted into the shifter hole...though it felt like the shifter was rotating I doubt it ever rotated (especially from the ammount of force it took to go up and down the gears) and it finally failed from being torqued back and forth from shifting - totally my fault for not fitting it like I should have.

Well, just finished putting it back to stock...it's functional and shifts well. It's not bad and quicker shifting than the CAE Ultra shifter, but I miss the CAE... I'll take my time with getting the stock shift linkage that broke modified to properly fit the CAE Ultra shifter so there should be no failure again.

YES...I think the linkage pin being effectively bonded/welded to the CAE shift lever had something to do with the CAE being slower to shift...stock is noticeably faster and WAY easier to shift than the CAE was, still sloppy - but better than I remember with much less issues going into 1st from a stop. Must be the Perrin solid engine mounts and transmission stiffener. I'm almost perfectly fine with the stock shifter now save for the slight slop and it being positioned so low....

Ah. Yeah, because I'm pretty sure I can shift a lot faster with the CAE, and that's comparing it to the Kartboy.

Doing more test fitting on my install, I noticed that the rod is rubbing the CAE underplate when in reverse, any of you guys seeing similar issue? If you look from the underneath, you can see the rub mark on the underplate if it is.

I figured this out, by moving the shifter assembly all the way back, there's no more rubbing.

I do have one more question:

Once you adjust the limiter screw so that it shift into 1st gear effortlessly, and when the shifter is in 1st gear, are there any gap between the limiter screw and the shifter? I'm seeing about 1mm gap. If I adjust the gap to be smaller, then it's harder to shift into gear.

Adjust the set-screws (there are 3) for best, smoothest shifting action for reverse, 1-2, and 5-6; don't worry about any resulting gaps. There needs to be a gap... once you have them set in place and everything is good then stake with RTV or epoxy them.

I think you may have the same problem like I did.

Basically, with the limiting screw screw out all the way, the selector rod is rubbing/hitting the shifter plate (the one with the rubber thing).

For me, if I move the shifter all the way back (holes are slotted), then I can shift into reverse with (I think) no rubbing.

But to be safe, I just took a dremel and grind down the selector rod to have more clearance.

And this is where I had to grind down, grab the image on internet so not the same selector rod in BRZ, but should give you the idea.
