Toyota CH-R Crossover Concept

Teaser: Toyota CH-R Crossover Concept to Debut in Paris

Quote:
Hybrid will offer "bold design language" and "engaging driving experience."

With the Paris Motor Show just around the corner, Toyota has released this first teaser image of its upcoming CH-R Crossover Concept, a hybrid compact crossover that promises to deliver "a bold new design language with an agile, engaging driving experience and a Hybrid powertrain." With the next Auris already unveiled, we can only speculate that this model could share the same platform, with a production-ready crossover to appear in the near future.

The CH-R is likely to directly rival Honda's new HR-V, whose concept "prototype," based on the existing production Asian Vezel, will also be officially revealed in Paris. Few details have been made available for the new Toyota crossover, nor has the company said whether this model, which should fit it in below the RAV4, would make it to the American market.

Is this gonna be the New Scion Crossover?

This is Toyota's C-HR Sporty Compact Crossover Concept

Toyota Said To Launch Bold-Looking Nissan Qashqai Rival In Early 2016

Quote:
Toyota is closing in on its C-segment crossover project, aimed at giving the Nissan Qashqai a run for its money when it launches early next year.

The good news is Toyota’s upcoming crossover will stick close to the striking looks of the C-HR Concept, unveiled at last year’s Paris Auto Show. Autocar learned that potential customers surveyed by Toyota favored the concept’s looks over more conventional interpretations of crossover designs.

The wild-looking C-HR Concept (pictured), which features heavily flared wheel arches, “floating” taillights and angular haunches, was created after Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda asked designers to be more adventurous.

The new Qashqai rival is expected to be based on Toyota’s New Global Architecture, the company’s equivalent of VW’s MQB platform. The new architecture has been designed to accommodate a wide range of models, from compact to large vehicles, in front, rear and all-wheel drive configurations.

The new platform is said to allow more efficient packaging, with the C-HR Concept featuring a more spacious cabin than the Qashqai despite a slightly smaller footprint. The new crossover may debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2016. According to rumors, it could be called Auris Cross, but nothing is official yet.

Toyota Tones Down C-HR Concept, Gives It Two Additional Doors

Updated Toyota C-HR II Concept Moves A Little Closer To Reality

Quote:
Toyota has got some big future plans regarding its SUV/crossover line-up and this awesome looking concept previews them.

The C-HR isn’t a stranger to us anymore, as the Japanese car maker showcased the study at various auto salons. Still, the updated variant of the concept – which the manufacturer brought to Frankfurt – looks formidably interesting, especially as it sports more...digestible styling cues.

Make no mistake, it’s still a show-car, but some of its details could make it into production guise (the headlights, for instance). Moreover, its coupe-like body manages to hide two additional doors and carries the basic layout of the future compact crossover, which Toyota confirmed with the presentation of this…study.

Boasting a refined, diamond motif, the automobile announces a stylish, lightweight and dynamic crossover, designed to stand out in a congested, over-saturated market place. As Toyota puts it, "the C-HR is the next rendition of Akio Toyoda’s promise, on taking over the presidency of Toyota, to build always better cars that bring the fun back to driving".

In fact, the whole concept has been designed around the Toyota New Global Architecture platform (TNGA) in order to satisfy customers’ demands for state-of-the-art handling and control.

So, the stunning design isn’t the C-HR’s only strong point – although it sure looks like it – as it comes with a new, more efficient hybrid system, more compact and with lighter components.

Scion introduces its own C-HR concept in Los Angeles [video]

Quote:
Scion has taken the wraps off its C-HR concept this week at the ongoing 2015 LA Auto Show.

If the name of the concept rings a bell, that?s because Toyota introduced the original C-HR concept more than a year ago at the Paris Motor Show and a few months back in Frankfurt they showed a five-door version looking closer to production. Now, Scion has slapped its badge on the concept and as you can see it looks pretty much the same as Toyota?s second C-HR.

These concepts are more than just for show as Toyota has confirmed a production version of the C-HR (Compact size and High Ride height) will debut in March in Geneva and now we know it will be sold as a Scion in United States. The crossover will ride on the newly developed Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) shared with the latest Prius and could be offered with a hybrid arrangement.

Expect the radical exterior that takes inspiration from ?diamond with sheered sides? to be toned down significantly for the production version which will ride on much smaller wheels than this 21-inch set. C-HR chief engineer Hiro Koba is describing the concept as a ?fantastic urban driving car? while Scion?s VP Andrew Gilleland says ?its styling will lead the way, but its substance will seal the deal.?

Scion C-HR to debut in production form in Detroit

A new report indicates the C-HR concepts will finally morph into a production version set to arrive with the Scion badge next month in Detroit.

After two Toyota-badged concepts and the equivalent Scion, the C-HR crossover is just about ready to show its production face and hop onto the growing crossover bandwagon. It will happen several weeks from now at NAIAS in Detroit and will be offered with a hybrid arrangement and also with a turbocharged gasoline engine.

The model will ride on the TNGA that has underpinned the latest Prius and in hybrid guise will have a combined 121 horsepower coming from a 1.8-liter and an electric motor. It will be about 14 hp weaker than the Prius and will send the power to the road through a continuously variable transmission. If you would rather have the regular model, it will allegedly come with a turbocharged 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder motor from the JDM-spec Auris where it’s rated at 114 hp and 136 pound-feet of torque.

Chances Toyota will try and please everyone by offering the C-HR with a standard FWD layout and an optional AWD system.

This US version of the C-HR will be sold as a Scion, but other markets will get the crossover with the Toyota badge. The Japanese brand has already confirmed plans to show its version of the production-ready C-HR at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Sales will likely commence in the second half of the year and the model will compete with the Honda HR-V and the Nissan Juke.

Toyota To Debut C-HR Crossover By Entering Nurburgring 24 Hours

Quote:
Toyota and Gazoo Racing announced their entry in the famous Nurburgring 24 Hours endurance event with a racing version of the upcoming C-HR crossover.

The early appearance of Toyota’s new compact crossover is scheduled to take part next to a Lexus RC and RC F racing cars in the endurance race which takes place from May 26 to 29.

The Toyota C-HR race car will be closer to the final production model than the concept first shown in 2014 Paris Motor Show. The Lexus RC racing car will make its second appearance in the event, next to the RC F which enters the race under the TOM’s banner.

“I remember Gazoo Racing first taking on the challenge of the Nürburgring in 2007, (with a Lexus IS) like it was yesterday. There are so many memories – the interaction with the Nürburgring circuit, whose characteristics seem to change with each shift in the weather, and the meeting and parting with new and valuable friends,” said Akio Toyoda. “What has remained the same throughout, however, has been the unforgiving conditions of the circuit and the intensity of the racing. Every year, we use these conditions to hone both our team members and our cars. I have experienced this approach at first hand over the last nine years and, for me, this is the real meaning of motorsport.”

The Toyota C-HR will be the first crossover model to enter the challenging endurance event, with the company not revealing the tech specs of the race car, which is set for reveal at the Geneva Motor Show.

You are comparing a fwd hybrid to a legitimate rwd sports car.

The twins are very underpowered compared to other cars in its price range aside from the miata.

Several times I've seen them say that driving dynamics are an important part of the intent of the new platform being utilized for this. They are giving it an aggressive look and the awd model should at least be able to get out of its own way but 114hp ain't gonna cut it for something with that look and target market.
