I have no clue where notion that the STI variant will be lighter came from. Perhaps I misread the article but I didn't see anything about weight reduction. I doubt the factory will be able to remove that much weight if at all. The car is quite light as is. Remember, 2800lbs for a $25k 4 seater is very light, when considering emissions equipment, airbags, crumple zones, etc. I'm not saying impossible, just not cost effective for a car in this market bracket.
Also, I'm still not sure whether Subaru will develop the current motor more or simply drop the new 2L turbo in the upcoming forester. I personally like the NA approach and would like to see that, but I feel like a 2L turbo is cheaper to drop in while allowing the factory to charge a higher premium as there is greater differentiation between the standard BRZ and a turbo STI BRZ. Just my humble opinion... |

I think that a nice set of 18x8 BBS wheels with good tires factored into the price is a really good thing for this car.

20-30hp may not be a lot, but it's more than current.. And half the popuplation whinge about the current power output. They increase, and still whinge?? Wow...
20-30hp is better than none. And with big brakes and good suspension, should be good. The weight variance will be VERY minimal. The wing won't add much, neither will the lip. The brakes will likely be alloy calipers. The STI rims are known to be a little heavy, but easy to replace with lighter ones. I ain't gonna get one, but it's still pretty cool |

and still have similar or more power than this 230hp BRZ, 18inch wheel is a step backwards and adds to the cost of the car, and tires.

For $3-4k more, Subaru could come out with a limited edition "Club Racer" edition, similar to the S2000 CR.
A CR edition would not touch the engine, instead, it will improve on the car's handling by upgrading the wheels/tires, stiffer suspension/stabilizer bars, and reducing the weight of the car. If the STI version is really only going to cost 3-4k more than the base model, I can't see Subaru adding 20-30hp more to the current engine. |

I love how clarkson said this car has the top speed of the 1980's lol.
this thing needs power and not giving it to it was a dumb move. I'm sure even the regular FR-S will be fixed and it will suck for those first buyers. |

Take it from me, I'm in marketing. The VAST majority (not all) journalists out there are snotty nosed little tosspots, fresh out of university with some form of a communications degree, and instead of being a news anchor or a communications director for some major corporate, they are stuck writing fill-in articles for a trade magazine or puff pieces for some woman's mag.. Very few journo's are actually serious about their jobs. That article was the result of a solid 2.5 minutes research on Google and it bears all the markings of a last minute "give me a f%&*#ng article to fill this space!" type story. Not enough space for FI.... chortle chortle chortle... someone better tell AP, AVO, Vortech, Perrin, P&L and TRD!!! etc etc etc

They could base this on the stripped RA model which is already 40kgs lighter. Weight can be further reduced by throwing away back seats, power windows, a/c, and using lighter front seats.

I heard it was going to be twin charged (sc and turbo) as well as have a KERS system. :p
What would be interesting is if in the upcoming years, Toyota and Subaru go in different directions with the car - though Subaru is currently making them all. |

Btw - I'd take a 20-30hp increase ACROSS THE ENTIRE REV BAND, but if it's only peak hp at higher rpms, then it won't drive any different 99% of the time.
