Get it all the time with the Canadian prices and people say "oh so it actually cost you X" No, it cost me Y. Yes it would cost somebody using US$s X but not me. The actual US price (if even brought over at all) could be well above or below $70K. I would guess they would sell it here for something around $50K.
Maybe you misunderstood me. By saying "price it to $70k" I meant them building it to that price point. They shouldn't. It should be developed and built for a considerably lower price point.

Yes that is what I meant. The "article" was supposedly originally taken from a Japanese magazine so the $70K was an alleged JDM price point. That does not directly translate to a US $70K price point.

I agree if they are building the thing at all then competing with other cars in the $70 to $90K range is a bad plan (unless they know something we don't of course).

Well guys, the project has been cancelled. The CEO of Mazda has said so himself.

http://www.carscoops.com/2016/12/maz...ays-no-to.html

Mazda chief executive Masamichi Kogai said the company has no plans to launch a sports car larger than the MX-5 Miata.

And this is why people can't fall for nice renders and fictional info published by the magazines and websites. There never was a "project" to start with. Just some that motoring.au pulled out of their ass and many fell for.

lol

Does Mazda have wizards capable of magicking up concept cars without a budget?

There certainly was a 'project' and Mazda is still developing the rotary.

I get your sentiment, but Mazda spent a good chunk of change to roll this thing onto a stage. A company that small doesn't blow hundreds of thousands of dollars on a marketing exercise without a tangible engineering benefit.

Was it ever going to hit production? I agree with you and the answer was probably a 99% no with a slim chance of the board getting swayed to yes if it had outstanding reception and someone found a spare billion dollars laying around the factory.

Ya I wasn't really clear by what I meant by "project". I was speaking of something that was destined to hit production like the motoring article said.

You clearly pay more attention to clickbait and 'renders' than I do. I didn't even realize their was any hype outside of the concept. Guess the reposters didn't put much effort into it as a good chunk of this site is anti-rotary and won't get them as much e-cred as BMW Z5 renders.

I only pay attention to what get's put up here. Even then just to attempt to counter it. There are far too many clickbaits that make shit up that people fall for and it is my personal mission to fight them when I can. Renders are one of the worst offenders because people are all "Oh look there is a picture of it so it must be real".

Mazda needs a sports car that isn't a Miata but is also conceptually malleable. A RWD sport coupe that can also be a 4 door sedan or shooting brake.

They tout performance, fun and "zoom zoom", then have exactly 1 rwd car in their lineup that only appeals to a small niche.

I love the current generation of Mazdas and they are my favorite manufacturer right now in terms of quality/value/looks but when it comes to selling the "Ultimate Driving Experience" they kind of missed the memo.

If "driving matters" then prove it.
