I spun a bearing on my 2013 (11/2012) at 86K miles. Oil level was to the top dot and was changed 4000 miles prior with 5w30. When it blew I was doing a pull to redline in 4th on the interstate. Leading up to that I had been driving it like a normal person so the oil temps weren't high at all. On tear down I was actually impressed with how little carbon buildup there was. Looks like the dual injection really does work. A little blast with some carb cleaner and it was like a mirror. Didn't have to use a brush or anything. I don't needlessly redline just for the hell of it but I do drive it hard and it sees redline at least 10 times a day. When I am cruising I keep the revs low though.

I've never bought into the whole drive it like you stole it or else it will not like to be driven like it's stolen concept.

The DI seal issue was related to detonation on high transients. That was fixed with software a long time ago. If you don't have the the fix then redlining is actually not a good idea. That is exactly the scenario that was causing the detonation and blowing seals. My DI seals looked fine but I'm changing them anyways while I have it all apart.

I like to redline it pretty often just to make sure the shift light is still working.

Get it up to operating temperature then flog the sh*t out of it. Worked for me on my last two cars, never had a problem with them. Both high revving naturally aspirated 4 cylinders that see a lot of the track. Neither have used a drop of oil or given me why trouble.

I do burnouts in the garage before I set off. it helps to get engine and tire temps up quickly and I get to check my carbon monoxide sensor multiple times a day. you can't be too safe

A lot of people I've been talking to lately keep comparing the motor in our cars to a rotary in the sense that revving it high (near redline or at redline) multiple times during driving is necessary to keep the car in good condition.

Curious to see what you guys think about this. I granny my car a lot, going near redline for me feels a bit awkward especially in the AT's long ass gears.
Apples to oranges comparison. For one, the rotary has essentially 1 plus each rotor of moving parts. A basic 4 cylinder has the minimum of at least 20 moving parts.

that being said, redlining either has greater wear and tear thanks in-part by the heat generated.

Granny driving a car and lugging it isn't the best thing you can do for a car either. My pet peev are granny drivers who think their granny driving is saving the car and planet when they don't maintain their car and are actually making the car worse and the planet worse by polluting it with poor maintenance.

I drive my car within the specifications and that's good enough. I don't lug the car, i don't redline the car. I just drive it to get the most out of the RPM range.

Break the car in properly. Drive the car properly and enjoy!!
Personally I redline it, I also rev match and have fun in the corners when possible. As for the air bags knowing if they work humfrz <insert sexy girl here>. Squeeze them and rub face in them they sould work just fine.
