nikitopo: main question is - with what tires? Many if not most after wearing down stock primacies will move up for grippier tires. From a bit, till much grippier ones. So i don't see point building aftermarket suspension around tires it will almost never be used with.
And .. once one moves to tires with more grip, i don't see riding on bumpstops as best possible change.

I think this kind of suspension can work well up to the grip level of lets say a stock size Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tire. This is the suggested tire from other manufacturers with similar coilover specifications and is a very good tire. It is not a dedicated race coilover, but if we want such a coilover then the correct would be to trail the car to and from the track. The promise of the Road and Track line was to provide a track capable coilover that you can drive to and from the track in comfort–while having the precision and handling required to still hold their own on track.

but my MI20 is very comfortable when set to -15 clicks and offers a significant bump in roll stiffness.

In fact I think my Ohlins MI20 equipped GT86 is more comfortable than my 2015 BMW X3 M Sport in nearly all conditions.

I'd consider it a 50% road / 50% track kit

There is no one right set up. Everything's a compromise.

I completely agree.

My point was that the old MI20 kit is soft enough to give an OEM like ride while improving roll stiffness to support more grip, so why go softer. Seems odd to me.

Why? Because some complained and Ohlins listened. Unfortunately ones that didn't complain, and to whose needs old setup might fit better, weren't asked and found out about ohlins choice only when more and more shops started showing MI20 as discontinued . I'd welcome Ohlins choice making camplates optional, but not happy with their choice of springrates.

Do you know who actually buys these things?
Do you know what type of feedback Ohlins got?

Without knowing the discussion process and feedback given, it's not odd that they will make a change. Someone internally at Ohlins wanted to make a change based on some external info, the product was updated.

If there's one thing enthusiasts are very bad at doing, it's giving proper feedback to improve a product. Posting on forums and social media all day is the last place you want to solicit feedback on your products.

If someone has the MP20 Ohlins, do you advice to change the sway bars for improving the roll stiffness? In case he wants to use a stickier tire than the Pilot Sport 4. I don't see this to be proposed often and I am wondering why. The stock sway bars are known to be quite thin. Especially the rear one ...

Actually Chris Witter of Ohlins visits forums regularly looking for feedback. His team developed the MI20 kit at the ring in Germany. I want him/Ohlins to offer both kits....

It can work, but too stiff and you get wheel hop due to lack of independence.

Yes and used feedback from the CS-V3 race cars. The first year they were using Ohlins coilovers. The next year TMG decided to switch to Bilstein's coilovers and all the teams gained 10 seconds per lap, which was a huge improvement. Something was clearly not optimal ...

Hang on it wasnt just bilstein mds they switched to. They made a few changes including adjustable anti roll bars and 10mm wheel spacers.

Yes and the next year they added roll bars, 10mm spacers and switched to Bilstein MDS. Total package gained 9 or 10 seconds.

Ill also added the standard spring rates were 140N and 180N so very very firm but needed for a racecar running 245 pirelli racing slicks.

Ive actually been in a 1st gen TMG ttx and it was driven by F1 driver Jolyon Palmer.
