Why did you buy your twin?

Hi All Fellow Twin Owners.

I have been reading a lot of the posts of various subjects. I have found a lot of them interesting and informative. There is a lot of knowledge being shared which is always a good thing. There are a couple of particular items that keep coming up that that I find interesting but there is one that keeps rearing its ugly head “The twins are slow”. We all know that speed is a relative term and stating the twins are slow can be proved and disproved based on the yard stick being used.

There are lots of reasons to buy a car/van/truck most of them are personal so I decided to ask the question and see what results we get. I have gave 5 categories that are more specific to sports cars. I have not included stuff like mpg and safety ratings as these tend to be secondary in when talking about sports cars.

(I know someone will state that sports cars are safer than saloon cars because of the better stopping distances etc. but my focus is why you decided to buy a twin as opposed to another sports car so the point is moot)
  1. Price: Because I refuse to pay more than 30k for a car regardless of how much I like it.
  2. Looks: Because I don’t race my car. Performance is important but if I don’t like the look of the car I will not buy it.
  3. Handling: Because I hate driving a mattress on wheels.
  4. Performance: Ok 0-60 in about 7s is ok for me. If I had wanted faster I would have purchased a Mustang/Camero.
  5. Aftermarket enhancements: Last because it’s the least important aspect to me

There are probably a number of other factors I could have included but decided to keep it simple.

So all you fellow twin owners. Why did you buy it?

After eight years in a Miata, I was looking for a car under $30,000 that was a bit larger (interior room) than the miata, was a coupe (as opposed to a roadster), RWD and fun to drive.

It was cheap.
I needed a car for just me and my laptop.
It was cheap.
It looks pretty.
It was cheap.
It was cheap.
The cockpit is wonderful.
It was cheap.
It is different than most cars on the road.
It was cheap.
Oh and did I mention it was cheap?

I owned an MR2 spyder since new (2000). Kept waiting for the right car to come along that I would want to buy. My reasons for moving on to a new sports car were pretty much the same as yours.

After years of driving inexpensive, boring, family haulers I decided I wanted something a little more fun when we shipped our eldest to university.

As luck would have it the FRS was released at the right time and hit all the boxes. Fun, inexpensive, decent performance, looks good, etc.

I couldn't be happier with the purchase.

1) It is FUN
2) It is so CHEAP I do not worry about having FUN in it.
3) I was so tired of the outrageous maintenance on my German sports cars.

I guess you might say I like CHEAP THRILLS

Bought it to have some fun on the track, something that was on my bucket list. I rarely even drive it on the street.

And of course because it was CHEAP
