Yes the same one.

Honestly did not try, since I'm more accustomed to creating user-defined PIDs - I can give it a try tomorrow.

Amazing! I tried the custom PID and also got "no data received". The built-in "Engine Oil Temperature" worked fine.
I guess folks should try both variants of the oil temp PID and see what works for them.

For reference, my OBD dongle is "Veepeak Mini Bluetooth OBD2" from Amazon.

I think mine is same as yours but different branding.

am gonna try reading both custom and built in today, if it doesn't work
am gonna try installing the app from the small cd that came with the dongle.

Nice suggestion about the ELM327 Identifier app - my OBD dongle passed up to 1.4, then failed 1.4b and above.

What's the custom PID that you use for oil temp? I've seen a few variations but none worked for me with the free Torque.
Something that came to mind - do you know which ECU calibration that you're using?

It won't be the same, since the location where the oil temperature is read will play a role.

I recall reading posts somewhere buried that it was accurate enough.

No idea. My car's drivetrain is stock, no tune. So I guess whatever came in North America in 2018 BRZs.

But i think the difference shouldn't be that big tho, if the oem temp sensor is accurate.

I tried testing my OBD adapter with the ELM327 identifier, it wouldn't even connect to it
Although the adapter connects to the ECU and torque app normally, but was giving unable to connect everytime i tried the identifier app.

I am using a generic (read inexpensive) eBay ELM-327 BT unit with the free version of the Torque App on my Android head unit. Using it to bring up 6 dial gauges:

* Coolant temp
* Oil temp
* Throttle position
* Engine speed
* Instant MPG
* Ambient temp

The list of available values appears when adding a new display element - no PID codes required.

the built in oil temperature with the free version from the playstore?

i thought this wasn't possible

are you you tuned or stock ?

btw the elm327 identifier app worked with me but gave me couple failed ones when i did the test
although coolant temp, ambient temp, rpm ... a lot of things are working but the one i want the most (oil temp) is not working
builtin nor pid

A wild guess but it's likely that some newer calibrations have the oil temperature accessible via the OBD2 standardized PIDs (the one coming from the link earlier is from the Toyota-specific PID) which could explain why for some owners, the Torque app would work right out of the box and some wouldn't - like mine.
