Can you guys tell me what you do with insurance? My 86 is my only car, and would rather not do anything without that.

Awesome meeting you @Mandarb ! Thanks for the high quality pictures (DAMN YOU HAVE A SERIOUS CAMERA! lol), and your help in the pits!

Hope to see you again at the next events!

Dude if you get a quote out of them can you please either post here or by PM. I've turned 25 recently so I'm going to be looking around for new quotes sometime soon.

My question then is, what would be the best way to get into it? Do an advanced driving course first? How do you handle insurance?

Thank you?

It's been written off since, but this was in 2013 in the Cape. The one on the left.

Ok, Red Star is open tomorrow, so that's where I'll be going after I vote.
Just wish they had a bit more info on how it works on the day on their site.
Also long sleeves, helmet and gloves?

Yep, also long trousers and closed shoes, takkies OK, just not slops.
Ideally your clothing should be cotton or mostly cotton. Try to avoid nylon stuff.

Enjoy!!

Didn't crash...

Ha, only got one session in, misunderstanding with the marshals on when I could go out.
My friend rode with, and timed me. Fastest of the 4 laps was 2:47.1. I have a lot to do to keep my head and think about hitting apexes.
Couple of moments. Of course I was the slowest, only road car in a field of race cars, including what looked like Super V8s, a Mustang and Corvette. Mustang gave me a fright, coming through the last hairpin suddenly in my mirrors, and trying to give way correctly.
Last lap something started vibrating, slowed down and went off. Turned out it was just the marbles. By that time we had to go, my friend had something else to do.

Gave me enough to wet the appetite, but need to do research and maybe some car sims to get some theory down.
Will upload some videos later, just need to get it off my dash cam.

Wonderful. You put your toe in the water, and survived
Next time will be easier, and as you get faster less cars will pass you, and they'll catch you up slower.

Just one comment - don't give way to faster cars.
It's their responsibility to find a safe way around you, not your responsibility to get out of their way.

You just need to be predictable - which means stay on the racing line and make him go around you.
Giving way can actually be dangerous because you're likely to be moving into the space he's planning to occupy to pass you.

Also remember that you have a very obstructed and distracting view of him in your mirrors.
He has a panoramic and uninterrupted view of you through his windscreen, and probably a lot more experience.
Just be predictable and you'll be OK.

Yes, as I read your post I remembered what you told me. I just didn't remember it at the time.

Here's the laps:

Watching them now, obvious thing I did wrong from looking at the other cars, I was turning in way too early. Was also in the wrong gear on the slow corners, third instead of second.

You did great!!

Everyone's first outing on track entails too few hands, too few feet, and brain in neutral - that's normal.

Next time will be much easier, then you can focus more on your lines, etc.

Nice videos - I enjoyed them.

OK, now here's something you probably don't know.
With your very first outing on track you did something unusual, and I think I'm the only other person on this forum who's done it.
That's mix on a racetrack with a WORLD CHAMPION!!

The corvette that passed you at 2m15 in your Lap 3 video was none other than Devin Robertson, 2014 INEX Legend World Champion - how's that.

Here's a pic of that vette which he's racing this season in Super Saloons, and here's his in-car video of the final race of the INEX Legends World Championship in Dec 2014 in the USA. You'll only see a few cars - the one's at the front of the pack, but I've seen other footage - there were about 30 cars behind him. Enjoy!!
