dam jeez...

I didn't spend 2 years looking for the most pristine example I could find to mod it!.

When I sold my pristine '91MR2 turbo in 2003, I had added a simple boost controller, and my own design fuel-cut defeat device. Any hoses or screws that I had removed were in the glove box. There were no holes anywhere that weren't already there when Toyota built it, and both of those "mods" could be seamlessly removed without a trace in about 5 minutes.

Ok, this thread has been interesting. I have to give my 2 cents. First, OP, congrats again. I know how I felt when I got my first Porsche.

Cayman is a wonderful car. I hope you enjoy the hell out of it. I have driven several and they are awesome.

In the Porsche world, many modify them. Pretty much the same as here, but no gaudy plastic fenders or bad scaffolding on the back, or rediculous claims that a heavier shift knob suddenly made the shift linkage or transmission smoother. Everything the same, just costs a lot more.

Most common mods are tune flash, brake pads, tires, spring rates, sway bars, same as performance drivers here.

True; most Cayman owners will never be good enough drivers to exceed the abilities of a stock Cayman. But that is also true of the twins. Doesn't stop people from modifying them.

I joined scca in 1982, PCA in 1985. I know lots of guy who's ability on a track go far beyond a stock Cayman. They have highly modified cars.

I also noticed the hint that twin owners buy a twin because they cannot afford a Cayman. Been in other posts too. Probably true for the younger crowd, but I can go to a dealer and pay cash for the most expensive Cayman on the lot with just what I have in my checking. I have a twin because I want a twin. Caymans are a dime a dozen here, and I think the FRS is sexier looking.

Last, I have Caymans get out of my way all the time in my drives in the hills. however, I do have 22k in performance modifications. It always cost money to push the envelope.

I have a kitchen and a bathroom I have to do first. Also, I want to quit working at 55.

I hate being responsible.

Also about Porsches being expensive to maintain; my '77 engine was rebuilt in '87 by a very reputable shop in San Francisco and it cost $9,800 and change. I have the receipt somewhere. 1987.

On the flip side, I sold mt 993 after a couple years for twice what I paid for it. Last weekend a guy offerd me 35k for my '77. I bought it for 12k. You just have too keep them for 30 years.

I bought my daughter a 914 when she turned 16 I paid $1300 for it. She drove it 2 1/2 years and when she graduated, I sold it for $3200

Riiiiiiiight ..........

After she retired (as a school teacher), the school district superintendent called her just before school started and asked her to come back and at least open up a class (just for a few months).

As she was graciously turning down his request, she just glared at me ...... yep, after 30 years of marriage ....... I knew that meant for me just to keep my mouth shut .......

Well, the FRS went to CarMax today.

Have to admit, its really a pretty great car. Mechanically, it's 1st class...good engine, great tranny and shifter, well balanced, Japanese reliability.

But the sheetmetal is tinny, paint is horrible, interior is cheesy.

But it still goes down in my record book as one of the better ones.
