I'd just swap them from Left to Right. If the code changes from P0018, it's most likely that sensor that's bad. Just do the sensor first. If nothing changes, try the OCVs.

I know I've been quiet for awhile but my issue hasn't resolved itself. I'm thinking my only solution is buying another ECU, unless someone can enlighten me otherwise.

Assuming I need to go that route, for a 2013 Subaru BRZ Premium Manual, what ECU would I need to buy?

Jesus, that thing is expensive.

Do you have a flash device like tactrix or know someone with one. If so you can buy any secondhand ecu and just flash in the correct calibration. The hardware is all same auto manual and different years.

Theirs dozzens of them on ebay for arround $100 usa

Is there someone stateside that can do this? There are growing piles of ECUs here that could be restored to at least stock making this fix a lot less $$.

You could get a Tractrix for 179 and do it yourself and then have a good tool for flashing, Techstream and datalogging.

I don't but I was talking to a guy at Verus Engineering and he mentioned he heard some race teams having this code. Their solution? Aftermarket ECU, such as Motec.

This worth looking at? I don't want to buy another OEM ECU to just have the same problem I'm having now in another few months.

Motec adds up quick. M130 ECU is like 2K + custom harness.

Update time!

I've procrastinated heavily on this due to frustration, travelling, etc. I finally took the time and met up with a local guy that tried to diagnose wtf is going on with my car.

He tested camshaft sensors, OCVs, VVT angles, wire harness, etc. Took us a good 6 hours. In the end he couldn't pinpoint exactly what the issue was but he thinks it may be either:
1) Oil Pressure is low.
Mechanically he says the car is perfectly fine. No knock, angles are perfect, etc. But if the oil pressure is too low, it could be causing the code to be thrown (P0016). How could it potentially be low? The camshaft oil filter. (Does our car have one of these?). He didn't have the tool/sensor to measure this, so we're just spitballing this idea right now.

2) ECU is gone bad again. I know I replaced it, but I'm being told since everything has been checked, it may be possible it went bad after 9 months. I'm looking into maybe borrowing one from a buddy for testing. Can I do this? If not, I may look into a cheap solution and buying a used one.

Oil pressure is plausible but it would have specific symptoms of lazy slew. Servo would be laggy and might even develop a low-frequency flutter if the integral gain is high enough.

The filters are here

When I rebuilt my engine I replaced those filters. Mine were clean but I could easily see these getting sludged up and restricting pressure. Unfortunately they aren’t easy to get to.

Going to see if I can find a used ECU to test first. If the code doesn't throw, that's the issue. If it continues, then I'll need to look into the filters. Crossing my fingers. Unless anyone here has an ECU I can borrow?
