I totally agree with you and how its gonna get worst. BTW, love your youtube clips.

Reading through this thread is kind of strange because I had the thought just a week or two ago that the WRX is the new Civic. If you go to an import meet, C&C or any other car show around here you do not see Civics anymore. All the young guys are driving WRX (and STi). Most are hatchbacks.

The FR-S and BRZ I see are stock or subtly modified.

I could see that. The WRX is finally in that price point and I also have seen a lot of crudely put together Subies.

And you're lucky that you don't see bad 86's.

Well, frankly, yes. I don't think the statistic has been compiled, but the propensity to modify a labeled "sports" car vs a "regular" car would probably be an acceptable assumption. To say "everyone" would be modding a sports car is hyperbole, but the point still stands that I think it's more likely that a sports car will be modded because it's a good assumption that car enthusiasts are the majority owner of sports cars and car enthusiasts enjoy modding cars.

Basically, if a, then b.

Anecdotal evidence isn't very strong (e.g. - I don't see many riced out FR-Ses where I'm at), but considering that I think hellaflush is "rice," I'd say it's maybe a 40/60 split of riced vs. what I consider "acceptable" Miatas. Not a majority, but still a large number. That's just the nature of sports cars and the hobby, imo.

To the OP. Who cares about what other people do to their cars? Their property, their money, so it's their lost ricing out a perfectly good car.

I've learn throughout the years that being a ricer doesn't pay off! Sure, having oversize rims with ultra-low stance, exhaust sound that blows ear-drums, painted calipers, big racing spoiler, body kits, eye-blinding HID's, racing strips or catchy vinyl may look cool to the untrained eyes. For me it's all useless show and no-go.

It puts a smile on my face every time, knowing a long lasting and potentially valuable 86 is the bone stock or minimally modded one.
I would say @Dezoris does a pretty good job of showing not rice.

There are several things to me that I consider "distasteful" but not necessarily "rice"

-HID kid w/ ballasts in non projector headlights
-Blue LEDs anywhere (White I am okay with inside the car and on the license plate)
-lowering springs
-plastidip
-vinyl interior pieces
-19" wheels

and I find these distasteful when not on a race car
-aftermarket steering wheels
-bucket seats
-racing harnesses

I think the twins are more or less the new 240sx rather then the new civic. You cant really compare an econobox to a perpose built sports car.

240sx were (and still are) in the same boat. Lots of em are riced, and lots of them are very clean and nice. The reputation the car has is somewhere in between the two.

I wish things from the 1990s would be archived and documented well for those of a younger generation (born after 1987 or so) to understand.

No one bought a 1992 Honda Civic Si hatchback, thinking it would be the king of all riced-out cars.

But you know what? I bought this car because it is a great combination of price and performance, and lightweight RWD chassis with decent power. If Nissan or Honda offered a similar car with similar attributes in the same price range (below $30K out the door), I would've considered those.

In the end... rant or not, I bought this car for me, not for the masses. What they do is of zero concern to me.
