Smile OpenFlash Header Production Specs/Pics

Hi guys,
We got our first run of OFHs in stock last night. I took some pics before they were packed up shipped out. These pics are also on our Facebook page. For for those who don't have FB, here's a quick blurb on what to expect when you order our OpenFlash Header. Our low pricing ($535 for OFT customers) has led some to believe that these were built to a low price. And that in order to get a quality header, you had to spend twice as much. Or that manufacturing overseas sacrifices construction and material quality. Not true.

Like the OFT, we don't build things to a price point. We build the best possible product and then price it at a point where it's a no-brainer, even for the staunchest of cynics

Here is what you get:

Each OFH is hand-made and goes through a strict quality control process, checking welds, sensor bung threads, surface finish and for burrs. Each OFH is also measured to ensure that it did not twist or bend during the welding process:

304SS construction:

Each unit is serialized:

A thing of beauty:

Cheers,
Shiv

PS. Shipping weight is 14lbs. So the weight of the header alone is 12-13lbs

Do you have a collector pic? Looks really nice. Especially for the price.

I want the most power NA in the usable range. So i'm waiting for 3rd party dyno results. 3 other headers all more expensive are in the running.

The Vishnu/OpenFlash partnership again sets the bar for high quality products at fair pricing. Thank you for your commitment to the FT86 community.

Seeing the manufacturer product has made up my mind, I'll be placing an order once taxes are done.

Yes indeed. 5 in first run. Second run should be here next week. After that, we are getting them in much larger quantities. I just placed an order for 50 of them last week. They have been making exhaust systems for us for several years so I never had a doubt about the quality of their work. They have never let us down. And they seem to give us preferential treatment since we do so much business with them. If we had made these in-house by our own fabricators, they would cost us much more than they retail for.

The flanges are mild steel so they don't polish up as prettily as the stainless tubing. So they are painted with a corrosion protectant instead. FWIW, mild steel is usually a better choice than SS for flanges since they are less prone to thermal expansion. Stainless is best left for the tubing.

Yes of course, all flanges are measured to be true before and after assembly. Of course, we still highly recommend replacing gaskets when installing the header. Re-used gaskets WILL leak. If not immediately, soon afterwards.

Thanks! The arrangement we have does allow us to price things significantly lower than others. Also, having a large scale dedicated fabrication facility allows us to use proper and efficient manufacturing techniques as opposed to building headers in the corner of our shop with a couple overworked fabricators. We've done that before and, in our experience, it's not something that is sustainable. At least not in the production scale that we are targeting.

The success of the OpenFlash Tablet has taught us a lot about product development and pricing. Looking at things in the short term, it would have made sense to price it in the $650-750 range. It would have sold well for sure and would have been nicely profitable. It it certainly wouldn't have had the market penetration it now has selling for $499. And now that we expect to have 1000 OFT users by April, it gives us a lot of potential customers for other complementary products like the OpenFlash Header. And knowing how big our customer base is, we know that we will sell many of OpenFlash Headers. This allowed us to aggressively price it without exposing ourselves to excessive risk.

Cheers,
Shiv

Having both a price point product and appealing to the "boxer rumble crowd" definitely helps.

Vishnu gets it right - time to stop ripping off customers because this is a new platform. I've seen this multiple times on multiple platforms, and guess what?

the guy that comes in and gives quality at the RIGHT, non over inflated price, ALWAYS wins. There are several forum vendors out there (one I'm thinking that is specifically in strict competition with this header) that are charging way too much for parts for this car.

Shiv has a great business model, and I will continue to support them with everything I buy (have OFT, ordered OFH, want OFSC). He's obviously got the business knowledge to take advantage of business situations.

25k car that most will DD = people not wanting (or able) to spend $1k + on headers, $1k+ on exhaust, $5000 FI, etc.

Get the price right, make tons.

read my lips, vishnu tuning will lead sales for this platform for aftermarket solutions.
