How often should the AC cycle on and off?

I read here somewhere that some BRZ's came from the factory with underfilled AC units.

My AC blows cold, but the pump cycles on and off every 5 seconds. On for 5, off for 5. I can feel the air go from cold, to not-so-cold as the pump cycles on and off.

My other cars the AC cycles much more slowly. I haven't timed the cycling on my other cars, but every 5 seconds seems to me like it's turning on and off too often.
