car height problems? - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

I put a deposit down on an fr-s two weeks ago...just waiting for the call..can't wait..

Anyway, has anyone had any issues with speed bumps/humps/driveways/potholes, due to the height of the car? Im only asking cuz i live in LA and i park my car in a back alley where the asphalt is so busted it's basically like offroading....

im sure ill be fine if i take it reallly slow. but just wondering if this has been an issue for anyone else.

I scraped my bumper leaving my work's driveway the first week I had it back after the CEL issue cropped up. It's not visible unless you're 2" tall but still pisses me off.

It clears speedbumps just fine so I figured I had nothing to worry about and didn't think twice before going straight out of the driveway. Guess it just caught it at the right angle. Speedbumps/potholes shouldn't present any problems but watch out for the driveway exits, for some reason this car can scrape them at it's stock height.

You shouldnt have any issues except for steep driveway entrances/exits (as mentioned)

Always approach and exit from steep driveways on an angle - never straight on. Do this and you should never have an issue.

No bueno, has this huge scrape underneath the car. Not visible unless you crouch, but its there

My fault though. I blame it on my lack of experience driving lowered cars, if your careful enough and go up at an angle it should be fine. Never any problems with speed bumps/potholes - I just try to avoid them/slow down and everythings fine.

Yeah, this car has an extremely low body for some reason. Despite that fact that it has 4 finger wheel gap. Just act like you're driving a slammed car and everything will be peachy

When you're going over a drive way, don't care about people behind you getting mad for you going so slow.
Just take your time and be careful.

Other than that, I have no problem with speed bumps and pot holes for scraping..., but I still do slow down or avoid them as much as possible regardless of the car being low or not.

Go slow on bumps and at and angle. I live in LA too, if you go fast over the bumps, youll feel them,no doubt.

Hit a small pothole in my maiden country ride with the wife. We both thought the front-end was destroyed. They do not like bumps much.

I do speed bumps one wheel at a time, but this car has much better ground clearance than my lowered Miata. That thing I almost got stuck on a speed bump, taking it at an angle!

There's a steep entrance to my work parking lot. My friend's Lotus has to take it at an angle, but the BRZ does just fine head on. Also I've pulled a little close to curbs a few times to discover the front end fits right over most curb heights without tearing it to pieces. A 1" drop on this car, and driving/parking it would be more challenging.

I've had no problems with speed bumps and other standard road features. You definitely have to be careful if there is a construction zone with "dips" on the road. I didn't scrape the car but did bottom out on one that wasn't marked properly.

Also, you have to be careful of curb heights with the side of the car. The curbs where I park at work would scrape the car on the sides if I pulled/backed in too close.

You just have to be aware that even at the stock height this is a low car.

And be careful of the pre-cast curbs used in parking lots.

Just be careful. I'm about 2" lower than stock and I just have to be aware of what I am driving over... I also don't care when my bumper scrapes over stuff (like pulling in and out of my driveway daily).

This is not my first car with minimal ground clearance though.
