When I was washing my car bi-weekly,it hadn't been eaten up by crappy northern NJ roads, and I wasn't suffering from bumper sag and an not-really-centered exhaust I got a lot of compliments on it...

Haven't overheard someone saying it looks cheap, though I suppose it's possible as there's still this weird stigma over the Scion brand. I also suppose the interior on the Base 2013 is what most would consider "cheap"... I consider it "simple" and prefer it over some of the plastic-y interiors with way too many buttons that we get nowadays from a lot of manufacturers. Those interiors don't tend to age well IMO while the stupid simplicity of the 2013 FR-S will...

One of the guys down at the power house was admiring my 2013 BRZ. He thought it was at least $60k.

He got pretty excited when he found out how much used ones fetch.

I showed up at a client's office just as she was also pulling into the parking lot, so we were both getting out at the same time. She hollered, "I wish I could afford a car like that!"

She had just stepped out of a $50K or $60K Lexus SUV.

My favorite reaction hasn't been about the cost, though. I went through a Raising Cane's drive thru in Alexandria, LA where the cute little teenage girl at the window had a fit over it. She turned around and called out to someone in the back, "Hey, come look at this car!"

A scruffy kid in his late teens came to the window beside her, looked the car over from front to rear, nodded his head and said, "Shit's fuckin' dope, yo."

She gasped, slapped him on the arm and said, "You can't say that! You're gonna get me fired!"

But I was laughing about it all the way back to my hotel.

Every person I've encountered that has asked is surprised by how inexpensive it is.

Nobody has asked me about mine yet. Apparently I'm unapproachable.

I've documented several such encounters in my Owner's Journal. These are a couple of my favorites:

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...&postcount=215

and although this has nothing to do with price, this is my all-time favorite interaction with someone over this (or any) car.

I LOVE the simplicity of the base FR-S interior and wouldn't pay for anything more. I hate crap on the steering wheel.

My Series.Yellow gets a silly amount of gawkers compared to the Whiteout I previously had -- the exotic yellow certainly doesn't help the optics.

I seem to remember having a hard time convincing the g/f that I stayed within budget when I came home with it. LOL.

I agree with most here..folks who aren't into cars don't think the twins look cheap, even the interior despite all the plastic since the dash layout looks nothing like most economy cars. But even among enthusiasts, I think most will agree that the twins certainly look a lot better than their MSRP would suggest.

Yeah, my original plan was to buy a FRS when I retired which would have meant a MY2017 or 2018
But (luckily?) an errant driver totaled my DD (2011 Yaris) so rather than buying a replacement econobox, I went ahead and bought my FRS, a 2016. So glad I did because I too hate steering wheels with any buttons other than the horn.

The only comment I ever got about my FRS was, "who's badass car is that?" Not that it matters; i buy cars for me, not to please others.
