If I were submit my engine for the recall, I would immediately follow up with UOA after only a few hundred miles. Then again a few hundred miles later. If any of the journals were scuffing, undesirable metals would be detected before catastrophic failure.
I would then quit driving it and report the issue.

Report the issue? Then the dealership would most likely not do anything about it till the engine froze up - humfrz |

Oh, who'm I kidding? We both know I'd just do it myself. A UOA will glow with copper well before catastrophic failure.

Seems to me that unless you stopped driving the car after taking each sample you are still at risk. Since we have seen failures in a range for 500 miles to 5,000 miles that would be a shit load of tests with no use of the car for longer periods than it was driven before you ever got a verdict one way or another. It would make a great lawn ornament in between tests though.

My car has been in and out of the shop for 3 months now trying to get this recall fixed. They just told me they are replacing the ECU after they replaced the timing chain cover, and a bunch of other shit.
Working with Subaru on this has been a nightmare. I just don't know the next step to take, because I can't trust the work they are doing on it. Coleman Subaru in Ewing,NJ btw. Nice people, but fuck. |

Sorry to hear all the horror stories here
I sold my 2013 and picked up a 2016 EcoBoost, eventually I think I'll come back. Maybe a 2017 BRZ and throw and Edelbrock on it! Anyone considering trading in for a 2014 or up? Seems silly to trade for pretty much the same car |

I dropped my '13 BRZ off yesterday for the recall and cancelled order on SC until I put 5000 miles and conduct a few oil analysis. After reading all these posts, I met with the service manager and expressed my concerns regarding this issue beforehand. He shared with me how corporate originally instructed him to have two or three people work on these recalls. This manager said "no way", and insisted that only one well qualified mechanic work on it from beginning to end, as he thought the problems were related to less qualified, jr mechanics. They have had over 19 recall work come through dating back several months. So far nothing has come back. Further, I politely revealed to the service manager that I would conduct oil analyses for the next few oil changes. He said he thought that was a good idea. He is a great guy and I feel assured he will take care of me and make things right should something happen. Just wanted to pass this on
