I've never seen any series that treats accidents like F1.. This is my first year watching every race, but I've seen cars on the side of straights blown apart and the driver walking down to a gap in the fence and the cars racing right by.. Now stuff like this.. Wow.. When a car is sitting off the side of the track why does F1 just throw a local caution and not a safety car??

They did call it out when Sutil crashed. Bianchi crashed under the Safety car.

I think Sutil crashed, Bianchi crashed the next lap and then they put out the safety car. Not sure they even have footage of the crash unless the camera down-track that showed Sutil's car was a stationery cam pointing towards that corner and it just wasn't being shown on the TV at that time. Maybe they have it on tape.

A freak accident, but looks like Bianchi's car went underneath the tractor, and the top portion of the car was basically cut off. He has serious head injuries and had a surgery done. He's breathing on his own, so let's hope that it's a good sign....keep fighting Jules!

Yellow flag = NO PASSING and NO driving on the limit. There should never be an accident in a double-waving-yellow-flag area. Yellow flag means caution (driver off track or re-entering) and double waiving means DANGER, BE PREPARED TO STOP! Quote:
Nobody cares. UPDATE: Sutil has reported that Bianchi's car slid sideways into the tractor and the entire driver-protective-crash-structure was removed "2-3 inches below the drivers helmet"!!!!!

I hope Jules isn't permanently injured. Instead of using a Saftey Car, which always screws up strategies, and takes time to deploy and collect the field, why don't they enforce an immediate speed limit for all drivers. If a car goes off, crane and marshals are on the track, everyone drive 70mph until it's sorted. |

In professional motorsports, the safety car is an advertisement. That revenue stream will not be tampered with.

I watched it last night after running a track day. Poor Bianchi, so young and talented, then this. Wishing him a full recovery although latest reports aren't encouraging.
About the race, Will Buxton said the race could've been run in the dry if promoters (read Bernie) agreed to move the race up 2-3 hours but refused. Press is gushing about Hamilton's "heroic" overtake of Rosberg but the way I saw it was that Nico made a mistake at corner exit on to the straight, the car wiggled and slowed him just enough for Lewis to take advantage. The real heroic overtakes came from Vettel with his epic outside passes. I think he'll miss Newey at Ferrari. I feel badly for the Japanese fans. They're such motorsports fanatics and deserved a good show at one of the all-time great, historic circuits. Maybe it's time to adjust the schedule to move their GP away from typhoon season. |
