but being that toyota doesnt have any convertible of note, making the FR-S into a convertible just may work. i personally want to see the hybrid come to market, but thats just me. make a poor man's version of the tesla and there will be buzz. Prius S anyone?

They lied.

No way it will be lighter than Miata. Coupe is lighter than convertible always and coupe is already heavier than Miata.
It will be a porky two seater with not enough power.

Remember this is a niche vehicle in a niche part of a segment and as long as it reaches targeted sales the company will continue to produce this kind of vehicle. And if adding a trim like convertible will appeal to a larger demographic. I'm all for it.

Make a vehicle that will appeal to the targeted demographic and add in more trims/options to appeal to a larger market. Porsche IMO has one of better business models when it comes to their vehicle lineup.

Wow I was wondering if this was going to happen. God only knows how long we will have to wait for more information on this. I love having a convertible and will miss it a ton when I move on but now maybe I won't have to.

its a scion. one car, one trim.

as for porsche, they sell great cars, but above all else, they sell their brand.

The coupe is already (relatively) heavy. It's going to weigh more if it's a convertible. Convertibles derived from a coupe is never a good idea.

The convertible looks good (in that picture). Not sure I would trade weight/rigidity for it, but looks good.

I'm waiting for the announcement about a lightweight "superleggera" edition of the FR-S.

It looks Awesome!!! But I'm still in the market for a coupe that has some secondary seating and an area for stuff. This is going to be my daily driver.
