They are turning it around dude. I predict in 5 years or so, they will be a major contender in the automotive world. I am not ashamed to drive a Hyundai. When the FT comes out and the Genesis gets a refresh, I may just pick up a used first gen Genesis for a very nice price.

And Mr.Jay is right, the brand is almost meaningless IMHO especially for certain cars that are distinctly unlike their brand parent. You should be able to compare cars based on their own name, qualities, and history. Eg, the FT-86 should be judged on it's own merits not the family brand history alone. Because, as we all know, it's not just another Toyota or just another Subaru . |

I'm not down with the Korean automobiles and especially the motorcycles because they are biters! How are they gonna take Yamaha R1 and make a Yamuda K1!! Hyosung makes real bikes but I wouldn't bother! Quote:

I wouldn't even buy a Scion and even give Hyundai or Kia a thought! I have the same feeling towards GMC, Chevy and Ford. I'm barely having enough trust on Korean electronics aka the Samsung's 1000uF cap problems on their LCD TV's! [u2b]WPNPM0wwLMQ[/u2b]

Only thing i see hyundais problem & why they never have the respect of the rest of the automotive enthusiast is they never had a respectable racing history yet, no chamionship international win on any respected racing series? In my eyes they are still a young company, seeing the genesis is a step on the right direction.

It has nothing to do with winning races. But they have turned it around, and while they aren't as reliable as Toyota and Honda they are climbing. More importantly the way people perceive them has changed to being very reliable.

.... Under C110 section GT-R The Nissan Skyline GT-R hardtop arrived in September 1972 but only lasted until March 1973, when Nissan ceased its production. The oil crisis saw many people preferring economy cars and high-performance sports cars were looked down upon. Nissan pulled out of Motor Racing, so there was no purpose to the GT-R. It was not officially exported anywhere, although Nissan contemplated exporting to Australia. Only 197 KPGC110 GT-Rs were ever sold in Japan,[9] through specialist Nissan Performance shops (before it was called NISMO). This was the last GT-R for 16 years until the BNR32 in 1989. Hmmm so 240K is for the Skyline and 240Z is for the Z car. Learned something old today. |

Perhaps I'm just unlucky, or perhaps I shouldn't have put too much faith in a shitbox, but I wasn't too happy when my 2004 Accent's transmission decided to shatter $1700 worth of gears at 68k miles. Sometimes you just can't escape lemonhood.

Exactly. I had a 2002 Mazda Protege5 that I bought with 45k miles on it and traded in at about 60k because the transmission kept nuking itself. It kept blowing out the rear passenger tire, even though the alignment checked out fine. One of the rear calipers seized up on it. It kept blowing headlights every couple of months. It was when the transmission started leaking for a third time that I've had enough and traded it in for my Celica.

For domestic cars, I wouldn't consider anything 1975+. I wouldn't buy any car Korean made and even some Japanese cars as well; Mitsubishi and some Nissans.
Even some of the German cars, I would likely think it through, VW, Audi, BMW and even MB. Most of the German cars can be a hit or miss when it comes to dependability.
