Damn. Wish I would've known this. I was wondering why I had to remove the brake cover. Seemed weird. My knob also isn't threading down all the way. Need to try again, I guess. Thanks!

Exactly what I thought, made about as much sense as peeling off the label on your orange juice just to remove the cap! Also, wanted to say thanks to BRZClub on youtube, he's who confirmed with me that the extra steps weren't necessary before I installed it myself.

Tore up the leather a little on the base of the e-brake lever trying to do this  Make sure to be careful with those pliers/vice grips/channel locks! Luckily it's not really visible but it still bugs me that I was so clumsy.

FYI the handle and boot do not need to be removed for this install spin old button off pull spring out turn new button on, job done... what did you gain from removing all the other stuff?.. other cars may need the handle and boot removed but the FRS BRZ GT86 do not require all that hassle

I am afraid if I use excessive force I will damage the leather ebrake handle, The Video's above show an easy screw out, but look at the damage on the OEM e-Brake Knob, surely they used excessive force to remove it with Pliers / Vice Grips / Channel Locks...etc Is there a safe way to do this without risk of damage to the Leather Handle? (Besides removing the handle and boot as the OP), Anyone tried with spesific tool and managed to get this out without damaging the Leather Handle? |

@FT_86_SM_GP when you have the vice locked onto the knob, hold onto the handle itself and steady it or apply a little bit of counter torque so it doesn't have too much stress on it. The knob is just glued, I know it feels tight but if you properly support the lever with your other hand, it should be okay.

I have been delaying this install of the Cusco Drift Spin e-brake knob due to time constraints and fear of using the wrong tools and damaging the leather e-brake boot.
I decided to have a go at it this weekend. Intention of install: MINIMAL damage to leather e-brake boot. Was very careful during the install but at the end still managed to grate off some leather, but Fu@k it, who is really looking at your e-brake leather boot unless they playing with your knob.lol I used primarily the following tools: This is the end result: |

The install took approx 5 mins to unscrew the OEM eBrake knob and screw on the Cusco eBrake knob
Please excuse the heavy breathing in the video, it is currently winter in South Africa, and has really been cold these last few days (Resulting in a runny nose) plus I'm unfit AF lol [ame]http://youtu.be/73w5MP5JZBE[/ame] |
