Whiteline rear subframe bushing install... - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

Getting ready to order the Whiteline shifter bushing and am seeing these rear subframe bushings as well. Seems a decent bang for buck upgrade for improved feel. Wondering about difficulty of install, would imagine rear subframe has to be at least unbolted to get these in place.

Short version, should I order the subframe bushings at the same time and save on the shipping or is install a really involved PITA?

Shouldn't be too bad if you have a lift, probably take a couple hours.

No lift, but plenty of garage space and jack stands. No stranger to working on cars, just wondering what all is involved in this particular install.

I ordered the Whiteline shifter and rear subframe bushings yesterday, thought I might as well order them both at the same time.

The shifter bushing looks simple to install, but I have no idea about the rear subframe bushings. It doesn't help that the install guide linked on Whiteline's site isn't working either.

I noticed their install page was down for that product. Tip: The rear suspension is VERY similar to that of the GH/GR Impreza. Here's the install sheet for the Impreza GH/GR rear subframe bushing inserts.

^From Vorshlag's thread on NASIOC; all you do is lower the subframe ~1". I imagine it's as simple as unbolting one side at a time while keeping the middle of the subframe somewhat supported.

Im going to look into this, theres too much movement in the rear subframe, wouldnt want to damage the body after time. Theres a video showing it on a KW thread.

Thanks for this thread. I'm getting ready to put some whiteline stuff on my FR-S and was looking at these bushing on their website. Looks like a simple install.

Whiteline has a YouTube video that shows how much deflection there is stock. The bushing is a cheap effective mod, I just hate greasing poly.

Looking over Whiteline's instructions right now and their torque values are off from stock for the main frame bolts and front support bolts; manual specifies 107ft-lbs and 52 ft-lbs, versus Whiteline's 72ft-lbs and 16 ft-lbs. For the main frame bolts one could make the argument that the new bushings account for the difference in torque, but for the untouched front support bolts? Their e-brake bolts are the correct torque though. Just wondering over the discrepancies...not sure if there's been service manual corrections at this point either.

personally find the two larger diff mount bushes to be too soft...

I haven't driven enough to be sure but based on the Whiteline vids I would agree that the stick diff mount bushing allows quite a bit of movement. I am sure diff bushing inserts will be out soon, they were a popular mod on the S2000 as well and helped make for a much tighter driveline feel.

that's a crapload of movement for both sets of bushings. did not expect that from a sport car.... definitely gonna be on my to do list.
